I think I missed this entire incident regarding Stan. What happened?

Thanks to Cookie Monster, the forum should be working again! Patrick and I really appreciate the time he took to figure out the problem and fix it because we were unable to when we tried.

I added back the Google Search feature. If there are any other features missing that you may be interested in, please let me know.

Anyone interested in taking the time to figure out how to fix this issue? We did not remove it from any search engine. There is an error somewhere that caused the issue.

I have been really busy these past few months and I haven't had the time to fix this issue, let alone visit the forum very often. So if anyone is knowledgable in this area and would be willing to try and solve this problem for us it would be greatly appreciated.

The iguanas that raid my yard also eat mangos, mostly keitts and pickering, which are right next to the canal.  There is a definite increase in their numbers this year.  They have killed over a dozen of my newly planted trees by repeatedly stripping every leaf and breaking branches.  This morning I saw 3 very mature 6 footers and lots of smaller ones, around 15 total.  They are out of control.   >:(

Why don't you kill them? You can also eat them if you feel bad about killing them for no reason other than they're eating your fruit. Below are a few videos of people cooking iguanas in Trinidad.

I've got about 40 seeds of pejibaye to sow. What success rate did you get Murahilin using the procedure you describe? have had very mixed results in the past with pejibaye germination (seeds got rotten).

Samuel Reunion island

Success was about 50%. What seemed to work best was planting them just below the soil and then leaving them outdoors. The ones I had sealed in containers got moldy.

The only issue with outdoors was that something dug up some of my seeds and ate them. If you have a protected area that may work well. Some of the seeds germinated after 3 months.

Here is a post I made on gardenweb a few years ago that has a pic with some pineapple seedlings I grew. Pineapples from Central America tend to have seeds due to natural pollinators IIRC. The seeds are just under the skin and seem to germinate easily.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Looking for Ilama tree
« on: May 10, 2016, 10:39:08 PM »
Thank you for your concern. I guess it is a kinda sensitive tree as it is still rare...

Fruitscapes might have it. http://www.fruitscapesllc.com/

If not, ask if they can pick one up at Excalibur for you.

I have a grafted Australian atemoya (One of the new varieties, not sure which one because I mixed up the budwood) tree in a 3g container to trade. It's about 18" tall. I also multigrafted a Vietnamese atemoya onto it, not sure yet if that graft has taken though.

I am looking for a nice decent sized 3 gallon atemoya of any variety. The reason I'm looking to trade is that I told a friend I would get them an atemoya tree, but I don't know how well they would actually take care of the atemoya so I don't want to risk the grafted Australian atemoya tree.

Right after I posted the Echo picture, I used the Hopkins Nursery website contact page to request information on the variety.  I just received a response from Billy Hopkins.  He stated that Hopkins Nursery started to propagate it based on the recommendation of the head Echo property manager who Billy considered a reliable source. Billy recommended I contact Echo for further information. The quest continues...

George,

What Zill varieties do you have budwood available for right now?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: PIN shipping costs?
« on: May 04, 2016, 10:47:55 AM »
No, actually its a thread that truly is a little senseless.  This is a forum/blog, not PIN.  If someone wants to know what any business charges for something, and wants an accurate answer, shouldn't that person contact that business directly?

Otherwise, what if I had replied, "the shipping will be $10."  Does that mean thats what they would charge?

Rob, I think you missed her point entirely. She was asking if the price sounds about right. Meaning that is that what they usually charge. If a vendor usually charges $50 for something but then charges $100 and you ask them if they charge everyone $100, they will say "yes" obviously.

If she has no personal frame of reference for what PIN or another nursery charges for shipping, it is very reasonable for her or any other member to make a post asking if the price sounds about right.

I live in the Jacksonville, Florida area and got a quote of $37.50 for 2 trees (they always ship 2 trees per box apparently, so if I ordered 4 trees I guess it'd be $75).

Is that about right from your experience? I just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any costs I wasn't aware of when I went to order.

That sounds about right. I remember speaking to them once about mailing trees to West Palm Beach and it was around $30. I figured it may cost around the same to order the trees from them online instead of driving all the way down to Homestead and pay gas/tolls etc.

Also, ignore BSBullie, hes can be very aggressive online for no good reason. I've been trying to get a moderator to only moderate his rudeness to no avail. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Today I found a new tree flowering a female for the first time.  I bought this from the Broward Rare Fruit and Veg council sale.  Echo is what the label says.  I was not able to find any information on this "variety".  Anybody know anything about it or how it tastes?

There's a problem with lemon thieves some places.

They steal all the lemons to have a lemon party.

Sap smell is the best way to identify PP vs ST. Break off a leaf and smell the sap that exudes from the petiole. ST has south east asian smell (coca cola). PP has citrus smell. The difference is very distinct.

I've tried, but I'm not good with differentiating sap smells. I can notice huge differences but not the subtle stuff. Since you said it's distinct I'm going to try again.

Sap flow is supposed to be strongest in the morning, would you recommend leaf smelling then? Or have you found it to not matter what time of the day?

Murahilin

Does that mean the pineapple pleasure scion I got from you sometime ago is a sweet tart? The leaves looks very similar to my sweet tart. Only difference I can tell is that PP graft  has lighter green leaves. Can anyone else confirm if my graft is indeed a PP?

I don't think I've shared any budwood from my PP tree. I think the budwood that I've shared came from Patrick's tree. But its still a possibility so you should keep an eye on it.

Why'd you remove your post? Let me guess, you're viewing from mobile so you didn't see your link? Anyone viewing from a computer could see the actual YouTube video embedded.

I think you're jumping to conclusions.

I fixed your video so it would be viewable from the forum. You removed your post.

ha, I've never heard of it. So they named a mango after Gary's sister. Hopefully it's good?

I tried it last year a few times. Didn't like it.

I'll try it again this year if I come across it. Hopefully it will be better.

Some pictures of my sweet tart

Thanks! Now I can definitely confirm the "Sweet Tart" is Sweet Tart.

When should the stump be cut in order to be at the right stage for topworking in mid-summer?

You can also try grafting right into the bark on the cut stump. I haven't tried it yet but I've seen images of the process and it may be worth a try.

What is the growth habit/vigor level of Pineapple Pleasure?

Just read Sheehan's post about multi-grafting them, and it seems Patrick did the same...So is PP similar to ST in growth habit and vigor?

I don't know if they're similar in growth habit and vigor. On my tree, it looks like ST is a faster grower. But that's anecdotal and I don't really have anything else to compare it to. My tree also has Juicy Peach, Kesar, Venus, Cambodiana, Peach Cobbler, and two other mystery unlabeled grafts.
