Almost done after one year.  I build the foundation with several layers of concrete in part to give it more heights and better stabiliity.   Got a few more things to do, but decide to put a few mango tree and some plant inside yesterday to test it.  There is very good airflow with all the windows and doors opened when it is hot. I noticed that at night it is a bit warmer inside, however, still not finish putting up glass on one of the door yet, still waiting for glass block to finish it up.
This sunday will be 91F, we'll see how the plants inside will take it. Love the quality of this product. They got the gasket(weather strips) to help make it air tight. This is critical as some of those tropical plants will die when cold air leaking thru during the winter cold months. support customer service is awesome too.  Very easy to put it together yourself, but the dome on the roof is the hardest, spent about a week on it. My only complaints is that it's not big enough for 20+ mango trees. Need to get a larger one for the swimming pool too.
My dog and I look forward to spending most of our time in their during the  winter day tosoak in some heat. And watch the rains falling onto the glasses.

special chair, for my dog to watch over the mango trees during the day while I go to work when doors are open and unlock.

single handedly fell this tree 30+foot. So now, I have more space for mangos and cherimoya.  My target was to land it on the boxes but missed it by a few inches. No plants or trees were damaged, luckily. But neighnor in the back has a super large mulberry tree that's blocking the afternoon sun. Maybe I'll put another greenhouse there and plant some soursop there.  Anyone selling seedless soursop?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / bought kent mango from Costco, too green?
« on: July 16, 2016, 12:24:57 AM »
Got Kent from Costo today 6 for $6. They are firm and green. When do I eat it? Do I wait until it soften and turn red?

37
The more I do this, the easier it gets for me. It doesn't hurt as much.

first time trying this fruit protection from critters. They ate all my persimmons, figs, and apples last year. This year, I am determined.

39
There were three,  I picked one off, a little too late to pick it off.   I think it should be ok to have it hold two fruits? I was planning on just letting it get bigger(not ripe) so that I can pick them green early off the tree to make  green mango salad.

i have an addiction to online ordering of tropical fruit trees. I already have:
20+mango tree
10+ guava
15+ cherimoya,pandan
mangosteen
asian gooseberry,
june plum
ice cream bean tree
15+ banana
rose apple
logan
lychee seedling
soursop seedling

I just ordered 1 lychee grafted, 3 more mangos.

And now, I'm going online looking for more things.  How do you control this addition?  I don't have any urges to buy new shoes, clothes,or jewlry like I do with tropical fruit trees.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / india alphonse taste experience
« on: May 27, 2016, 02:54:22 PM »
I thought this taste is nothing really to rave about.  I have better mangos in Cambodia.  My mom agree. The mango in Cambodia has about 10X better flavors and no fibers.

We also think the mango from Philipines is also better than alphonso. It's highly overated.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / seedling 7months old durian
« on: May 25, 2016, 02:28:22 PM »
so far so good. planted the seed in late Nov. 2015. Got seed from sister who was in kaui.  Don't know the variety. Since I've never seen what durian tree looks like, this is as close as I can get to seeing one. At least , I know what a durian tree looks like.  heeheee

I like to add more mangos to my collection, which one shuld I buy?
kent,valencia pride,dot,sweet tart,harvest moon,Neelam,ugly betty, southern blush?
#1 is flavor & fiberless that I seek. I don't care about size or fruit bearing. All I care about is flavor.  I want something better than alphonso.

already added to my cart is edward.  got room for one.  Any advice of which of the above to choose?

i bought this solar power kit, but haven't figure out how to use it because it doesn't come with storage battery. i like to set it up for the greenhouse to generate electricty for heater or to create heated water and store it in a water heater so that it can release heat at night.

anyone done it before and how do you connect the kit? do you just connect your electric heater to it or do you need to buy battery storage? and where do you get the battery?

is it possible that mangosteen can survive outside my front porch? These orchids , sharry baby(chocolate oncidium) has been thru 2-3yrs outside my front porch 365days/yr,I didn't provide heat or bring them in. This year, it flowered. Which is hardier? mangosteen or orchid? I would assume both are of the same type of environment. oh yeah, sharry baby does smell really good.
