Simon, as you know i have Leo's #1&3 growing on my trees but will be a few years before branches are big enough to fruit but I'll be sure to report to you when they do! My season up here on Central Coast is later than down South and we have cooler Summers so will be interesting to see when they ripen up here. ;)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Loquat help
« on: March 31, 2018, 11:33:24 AM »
I have a seedling tree guven to me by a neighbor. It has been 4years in ground and still no fruit. Thinking of digging it up. Pretty 8 foot tree but unproductive. It gets regular water, is mulched and fertilized. Now sprouting new leaves.
I had a grafted Big Jim loquat that I bought many years ago and it would not bloom so I girdled it after about three years in ground, nothing happened. So the next year I girdled it again and the next year it put on a few fruit clusters. Now it fruits every year. I girdled in Autumn. Good luck. Oh, I did about 1/4" wide girdle. ;)

yeah that's what they do in Winter after a cold spell no worries they will flush out new growth as weather warms.

I've put a couple in that have 4 in one hole about one foot apart so far doing well but need to keep up on trimming or pruning!

Well do ya feel Luckly Orkine! Well do yah Orkine!! ( excuse Mr. Eastwood)If i had a pic would be easer but he goes; Lucky= go ahead and cut out branches except grafted.
If not so lucky, leave two extra branches as back up and cut out rest!
Save= Keep new growth in check especially on grafted branches until they take.
Yes! I prefer on some older trees to cut back hard then graft re-sprouts, gain new vigorous growth and cut height down!
May the grafting GODS be with you,
my opinon after 20yrs. grafting 50yrs. growing. :blank:

Raul, a Hawaiian variety that has grown well for me but not fruited yet is Malama one of taste test winners in Hawaii. Also has taken cold this year 30F for a week now and still looks great with just over head frost cloth! Looks like it's going to flower this year too! 8)

The only damage so far is young tender growth on plants because of our previous Winter high way! Will be cold the rest of this week up here! But possible rain on the way we'll count it when it hit's the gauge! ;) 8)

I used to use aluminum labels but being close to ocean some would oxidize with in a few years now I use National band & Tag Co.I order # 2720 -which are copper tags  check out at www.nationalband.com or tags@nationalband.com. I get 1000 tags for $100. And you can just write name on them. ;)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: White sapote seed safety
« on: February 12, 2018, 11:13:49 AM »
I don't think the seeds have to be big to be toxic. he's my store when i first started getting W. sapotes from my tree's we started using them in smoothies in the morning and i was taking out big seeds but i was missing small flat under developed seeds. Well both of us my wife and i would start getting stomach aches about a couple hours later, it took us a few day's of trial  to figure out it was the small seeds that we were missing when putting sapote into blender. So we don't put sapote in blender any more just eat them and spit out little seeds.
beware of the little ones too! ;)

Slow poke's for me are red hybrid Jabo's i but them in ground at about 1'-tall and they have stayed that size also garcina's, grandifolia, luc's, lemon drop grew to about 2' tall and that's were they have stayed for a few year's now. black goji hardly grows after two years.

23
Great little report on your fruiting jabo's thanks for posting :) 8)

I have never had that type looking fungus on my tree's but get a similar looking fungus on my wood chip mulch have it been rainy! Maybe came from spores in your mulch?
