Tropical Fruit Discussion / Longan graft took

Very happy my Longan graft took out of two graft's one took which makes me very happy ;D A member sent me 3-different varieties of longan. I didn't have room for all the scions so I grafted two on seedlings i had and shared other scion's with friend Jack S. who grafted other scions to his two trees which where outside. This was a veneer graft done in first week of March.

On another forum a person posted that he heard that Tim Thomson (mister low chill mango) has gone out of business!
Any body know if this is true or not? If true not surprised!!

Many moons ago we were on vacation in Molokai Ha. and i remember eating a small no bigger than 3" long mango, flavor was sweet with spicy over tone's any guess's out there from you'll Mango Heads?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / CFRG-Central coast Scion Exchange this Sat.18th

To all who might be thinking of coming up to our exchange, if you bring scion wood you can get in early 1pm if not you have to wait until 1:30. Will have many varieties of Avocado from Jack swords and my collection plus cherimoya;Elixer,Big Sister,Spain,Fino de Jete, El Bumpo,Sabor,Inca Red,Chaffey. White sapote ;Golden Nugget,Cate,Fiesta,Rainbow, Robert's Rainbow seedling,Vernon,Santa Cruz,Pike.
If you go to Central Coast Chapter web site will have varieties listed later today! If any of you come please introduce yourself to me my wife Carol and I manage the scion exchange. ;)

I thought I would post pics of a cherry of the Rio Grande seedling that had awful fruit and I got scions from Adam, and top worked some of the branches last year!



I believe 10 out of 12 scions took ;)Thanks Adam 8)

I just wanted to show some pic's of my attempt  to save seedling tree by branch grafting over to 'Ben's Beaut' thanks to Adam, @flyingfoxfruits great scion wood! Now the wait! ;) 8)







Sorry I forgot to take before pic, tree was blooming and flushing new growth ;)Twelve graft's in all :P Semi-hard wood!

Hi all, I've got a plant growing and the seed is from Hawaii, which I collected last year while on "Best of Both Worlds" conference put on by H.T.F.G. & CRFG. Could have been from Big Is. Any help on I.D. appreciated! ;) 8)





I just feed it some balanced fert. just hasn't kicked in yet!

Back safe and sound from 2013 CRFG / HTFG conference in Ha., first off big thank's to Ken Love and all the folk's that helped put on Festival. Also up front must admit not much pic's back communication between wife w/camera. More folk's showed up for this festival than I thought would have gone. Most folks went on boat cruise we just got together with three other local CRFG chapter folk's anf went to two Is. Oahu and Big Is. of hawaii. Started with dinner reception that Kapiolani Community College put on WOW, they had many different meal stations set up with about 8 different courses all based on having tropical fruit used some way and it was the rave for the night. Chris Rollins gave a nice slide show talk on fruits of Florida. Next day was conference with Chris Rollins, Jim West, Roger Meyer, Joe Sabol Francis Zee giving talk's or break out sessions as they called them. Fruit tasting going on all day with a big eat the displayed fruit at the end.We got to taste big Hybrid Jack maybe from " Frankie's"had orange meat inside very sweet, salak , rambutan, longan ,etc. We got to talk with most folk's we see at these conf. To be cont. later!

The New CRFG mag. has a short with very little infor on Mango's developed for Southern Calif. area and like area's. Article written by a partner of Southern California Plant Breeders is all they tell you, they show a few named var. like  waxed mango,pineapple mango,mango #30,mango #12,mango #5. They say if you have Haass  avocado or lemon trees growing near you you can grow these!!

Ok folk's some pic's to kinda show some of my plants because was to hot Friday to do much outside and a first time fruit set on Lucuma seedling. ;D

My big surprise my first lucuma to set on Inca gold seedling that was put in ground 02 and behind it another taller Lucuma seedling unknown planted -04 never set yet but has flowered for 4-yrs. That's a little of my 2.4 acres of planting over 34yrs. too bad I wasn't into fruiting sub-tropical & tropicals way back then but any way that's where I'm coming from enjoy! 8)

I was hoping we weren't due for one this year but it's starting, damage we'll depend on duration. Here in Arroyo Grande, Ca. local weatherman has us down for the following, Thurs.- Wed. 1/10-1/16 with morning low's @ 30f,29f,27f,26f,23f,24f,25f. :'( Seems how things go out here you get your new trees up and going and then comes the arctic blast. :( Wishing the rest of the Cal. folk's here all the warmth you can muster. 8) :-* By the way high's for this coming week or so will range in the high 40's to mid 50's.
