Nice thread you started Caesar, i think nut crop's are are over looked by many people especially growing tree's that can bear a crop. But then again many of these tree's get very big and need room to grow! Interesting thanks for posting 8)

spaugh, don't leave your G.H. floor dirt you'll fight weeds and moss constantly! ;)I know I just put in a floor covering in mine after 30 yrs' tired of pulling weeds! Some of the big G.H. suppliers have coverings that you can buy by foot in different widths. The one I bought was white to reflect sun rays to underneath plants but it's not permeable the only down side I would make sure that the covering is permeable. Your G.H. is looking good nice job!

Thanks Scott,

I have several White Jades that are huge and should Fruit very soon, probably this Winter.

Is it me or is White Jade a naturally big bromeliad?  Mine are getting well over 3' across.
Indeed they seem to be BIG bromeliad with possible multi-pups!

Sorry to hear of your lost Simon, after growing pineapples in my G.H. or many years now I've learned that it's best to stake pineapple fruit as they tend to droop when getting fully ripe!! :( 8) But then again you've got a little plant that could and gave you many pup's !!!! 8)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pineapple slips, what to do?
« on: November 13, 2017, 07:04:56 PM »
Mark & Fang, I've tried twisting off these little pups before with mixed results, smaller ones that I took off and dip in rooting hormone and stick in straight pumice. One rooted and another did not so now I have a pup on my White Jade that i have leaf on after harvesting pineapple but i think at some point i should twist it off and give it a try at rooting! I have two other w. jades already growing from this mother plant! best of luck but i think it's better to let pup's get bigger before you separate from mother ;)

I like the taste of this fruit too! Lucky for me I have a friend named Jack S. who gave me some seeds and small seedlings and fruit to try!
Now have about 2 small seedlings that i hope to put in ground next year. Seedlings so far are healthy small and bushy and doesn't seem to be has fast growing as big leafed tropical guava's. Hopefully just young plant growth and will pick up growth soon! ;)Have given a few seedlings away to local rare fruit growers. ;)

spaugh, the biggest problem with grafting in Summer at you area is trying to keep scion's from frying in you heat!! You could cover graft's with white paper bag's with slits at top of bag so it doesn't get to hot but that would be your call. the other is having the right scion condition and growth forcing on rootstock! I've tried summer graft's but have found that percentage of takes goes down for me at any other time than around Jan-March. But that is for me in my cooler coastal area! Give it a try all you will lose is scion wood and maybe a branch. Good luck ;)
