Tropical Fruit Discussion / Germoplasm acquisition from TARS Rambutan R162
« on: February 14, 2012, 03:43:23 PM »
In my search for Rambutan R162, I found the TARS in Mayaguez PR has germoplasm available. But they say they only send to researchers or nurseries.
I requested it as a hobbyist, hopefully they will grant my request.  I have a few seedling available to graft onto if they are so kind.
Wish me luck!

ps- I did write to Frankie's to see what he has.  Any other ideas for a place to get this tree?

Just figured out what this is.
Now to treat it.  Will insecticidal soap work if I do it every week or soon the underside of the infected leaves?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / How to mail seeds internationally
« on: January 29, 2012, 07:56:14 PM »
This may be a dumb question but....how would I send seeds to Malta?
How do I know the cost and regulations  etc?

Someone sent me an email asking for some seeds but I really have no idea how to do it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / I have a disease! Need ID
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:33:09 AM »
I have noticed these nuggets on some of my leaves.  They are dry and pick out easily, but they reappear. On leaves (top and bottom).  They start off yellow/gold and age to black.
I need an ID and info on how to treat  please.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Raised pineapple beds a success!
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:26:43 AM »
One year ago, I made these raised beds to keep the pineapples high and dry.
http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/tropicalfruits/msg011604593435.html

Bed one is about 1/2 in fruit/flower!  The weed cloth did a pretty good job, but I did have to reach in and hand weed a little.
We just added a 3rd bed.

I have 2 Burmese grapes that have horrible canker- the bark is rough and corky and falls off.
Suggestions?  I don't think there is any way to cure it, so I will probably cut them down. Should I burn the wood to prevent spread (though I haven't noticed it on any other trees)?
