Well, just to add a little confusion, I have "lemon drop mangosteen" and I have a "Bakupari" both from Sadhu in PR and they are not at all the same plant.  My Bakupari is much closer to the achachairu in size/season etc.  I just call it a garcinia species since it is an unknown!

The best part of the rambutans is that his tree fruits every 4-5 months, so he sometimes gets fruit 3 times a year.  I am going to try a few approach grafts onto it.

The nispero and mango are from Yair (one of the white mango hunters in Tropical Fruit Hunters movie).  I don't know the name, but it is a variety from Thailand.  Great fruit to seed ratio and peeled like a banana with thin skin.  Very good.

I got some green sapote seeds on March 10th and just stuck them in a pot with soft potting mix, kept them warm and moist and today, they are sprouting.
I think you are doing good with the moist soft soil, warmth is probably going to speed up the process.

Yeah,  life seems to take up a lot of time.  Fall is rainy season and winter is my busy season here, so plants get put on back burner.  Now that dry season is here, plants are getting more love.  Poor things, they are so abused!

I have clay soil and mine seem to dislike being waterlogged very much (it died).   Maybe cut back on watering and move to higher ground.

I am pretty happy about it.  Sadly nothing gets babied in my yard and yet these are pretty healthy.  Not much seems to phase them- poor draining clay soil, too much rain, dry season, no fertilizer.  Lots of my other plants get hit with pests really badly but these guys (along with rambutan and mangosteen) seem to go unscathed.  It is a miracle!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pulasan Flowering
« on: April 05, 2014, 04:08:22 PM »
After only a few years, 3 of the 4  Pulasan seedlings  are blooming!  I am very excited.  These were from Juan in PR, but not from his "good" tree. I am guessing they are 3 years in the ground, maybe a year seedling when planted.
A first for me, I am hoping at least a couple set fruit.  If not, I will quickly prune them back to encourage more growth.

And while I was in the yard with a camera, a picture of the jackfruit.  Seedling of Black Gold.  I enjoy this one very much.

The spikes are not sharp, so it isn't too dangerous.
We actually never eat coconut, but our guests love to pretend they are on "Survivor" and we always worried someone would really hurt themselves trying to open coconuts with knives, sharp picks or machetes.

I assume it would dehusk  green coconuts like it does on brown ones.  I haven't tried it on a green one yet. But here is their videos of a green coconut being opened.

I am not sure if this has been posted or discussed before :

Planting multiple plants together to make stronger roots.

I haven't seen any other studies about this technique, but it might be worth a try.
I have a few freshly sprouted seedlings that I will stick together in one pot and hope for the best.

Congratulations!
In my experience with star fruit (though I have never had this variety), the more deep gold in color the better.

The Kwai Muk that I have tried here in Texas has a nice apricot flavor with citrus overtones. Really worth growing in my opinion.

Thanks,Ed

That is what I recall them tasting like- apricot-ish.  The texture was a bit stringy, but  I liked them very much.

Eugenia candolleana Rain Forest Plum blooming 3rd time this year.

Ed   Texas

Have you gotten fruit yet from the flowering?
Mine have flowered a number of times and still no fruit.  I am assuming it is not me and just an immature plant.
