Spaugh, I guess "Bacon" is the "Tommy Atkins" of avocados? Not sure outside California though. Chris

Mark, I saw tons of cherimoya in Little Saigon last week if you want me to check on fruits for you? The fruits looked good and I could mail some to you if you desire. Chris

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Jaboticabaholics Anonymous
« on: March 03, 2017, 01:35:16 AM »
Christian, if I had a guess I would say that is not a Jaboticaba. Most jabos branch out even at a very young age. Yellow jaboticabas can be lanky for time when young but will eventually start to branch out as well (IMO). Chris

I use a hose filter to get rid of all or most of the bad stuff. I bought it on Amazon for $130ish and it has worked very well (sorry can't remember the brand). Just search garden hose filters. Also, I second what Frank said about the sulfur. One caveat however, the filter adds a significant amount of weight to the hose but I just look at it as a nice workout. Chris

My Cinnamon Verum is about 8-9ft with a 4" diameter trunk and it's an epically slow grower here. Jaboticabas race past this tree. Chris

My trees are all blooming at the moment. Hak Ip, Kaimana, Brewster, and Emperor. No clue if the blooms will produce or not. Chris

Great post Frank! We are pulling our little girl and boy out of school for a month to go traveling to Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore starting this Friday. I can't wait to search out some tasty fruits. Take care, Chris

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Winter Crop
« on: January 09, 2017, 02:18:41 AM »
Jabo, I'm curious if your Jabo crops differ in any way? I have a Sabara and Red hybrid that fruit year round and have noticed differences in crops. One crop will be smaller but will have larger fruit and vice versa. Am I slacking in the fertilizer regiment? Its hard to figure out a fert schedule when the damn things are cranking out the fruits non-stop. Thanks. Chris

Looks like A. Reticulata or custard apple. Chris

Is it possible to rent a truck, pick them up, and drive through the California border checkpoint? I would take them if I didn't have to have them destroyed before my teary eyes at the checkpoint. Chris

Amend the soil area now to allow for decomposition/maturation. When Spring arrives your amended soil will be primed for planting.
Best regards, Chris

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: When should I fertilize a mango tree.
« on: October 15, 2016, 12:48:07 AM »
I vote to cut them off and let the tree rest before this winters bloom. Its getting late in the season and they probably won't reach full maturity anyhow. My 2 cents. I have a Carrie with 1 fruit left but its probably 6 in. long and nearly ready to eat...just ate one today off that tree and it was delicious. Best regards, Chris

The fruits are at maximum ripeness when they are almost black with a matte (dull no gloss) exterior. Chris
