LP - my red surinam's surely do taste different but I really LOVE them now.  They don't do too well in our intense heat -
I should probably plant one in some part shade to see if the production improves....

ED.....very interesting....so you are saying NO frostcloth is better idea?  I'd like to hear
what puglvr has come to conclude....I mean you might have something there, but it
goes against logic.......anyway, trees are  looking good...have a great harvest this year!

Thanks Nullzie, Zands and Starch!  You know, feel I got lucky here as we had a couple of 32 degree nights that only affected the
poorer/colder locations around the yard.  Another couple degrees lower and things could have been way different looking right now!

Simon - that Kelp/Seaweed emulsion soil drench sounds like something I'll try.  I also saw some "report" on line that said to make sure
that one waters the baby mangoes sufficiently between the 4th and 6th weeks because it can cut into your harvest if you don't....

Hi Frank - yeah there was some damage on a couple mangoes - the Maha Chinok and the Bombay, but the
rest seem to have fared pretty well...should be a nice mango tasting this summer....

knlim000 - the trees vary in age.  Most are 4-5 years old.  The Rosigold is like 8, and then there's a few
in the 3 year old column....

So, this hot weather has kicked my mangoes into bloom bigtime.  Enjoy the pics! Hope to have a nice
harvest....fingers crossed that no cold spikes return... Gary
(PS - this year I shut off all the sprinklers to the mangoes on Thanksgiving and perhaps
that was the kicker for such a bounteous bloom - I probably have control over watering
more than most)

That's interesting Gunnar, cuz when I've gotten my Rosi to yield mangoes
out here in Cali they have been extremely good- fiberless, sweet and with
some flavor interest.....

Jeff - I did not cover the cut opening on the remaining papaya trunk and worried about that
myself as far as rot getting in there.  But it didn't happen but I have much less rain and humidity
than you, so I'll defer that answer to others.

Also, I have a tree that had the crown killed and it sprouted like 5 branches of various sizes
and actually held up in our recent 50+ mph winds....see if I can find a picture, not that you can see each branch ....

Starch - I didn't have much luck with a Cogshall I planted about 4 years ago in our desert heat.
It just kind of burned up. I did have 3-4 fruit that ripened one year and they were VERY average tasting,
and it is a VERY slow grower in our climate.  Just wasn't worth it for me.....maybe see if there's anyone in the
Phoenix Tropicals Fruit forum who's had success growing it.....

Waterbug - yeah we get 100/100 easily here.  This year we've had 114 days of 100 or more and last year it
was 120.

gaberec - you might want to check with your fellow countryman, Pancrazio, to see about
getting cuttings into your country.  He's only had some success with the Glenn mango to date,
and he also might have an idea on which of those other varieties he thinks would be best for
your climate....

I mean, I like Lemon Zest, Coconut Cream and Edward but tastes between people vary quite
a bit...
