« on: October 30, 2014, 09:22:25 PM »
Does anyone have any experience with any of the non commonly cultivated Hylocereus sp.? I was surprised to find out their are several like Hylocereus triangularis

This is the only fruit picture i could find

https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4142/4930358279_7f3308632d_z.jpg

I don't know how big the fruits get, but now im curious about the rest of the genus

H. ocamponis also looks like it might be a winner

http://cactiguide.com/cactus/?genus=Hylocereus&species=ocamponis

Hylocereus trigonus seems interesting as well

« on: October 30, 2014, 05:17:40 PM »
So I've seen people offering Pouteria domingensis seeds for sale and I just ran across it again. I'm considering buying some seeds, but the pictures look just like canistel, even though they claim its different.

So anyone have any experience?

It think its just Diospyros virginiana that grows out in the South Everglades swamp land. Has anyone heard of anything like this?

It's been three years, I'm up to 6 branches and finally seeing some adult leaves!!

And for all you that think I'm crazy...I'm putting 20 ft poles around the tree before this winter starts to make it easier to cover.

I'm gonna fruit this in SFL or die trying

I gotten seeds from two different sources. One set of seeds was polyembryonic the other wasn't.

Doesn't anyone know enough about this to tell me if this is normal? Is it different strains or did someone hoodwink me and send me mango seeds.

Citrus General Discussion / Old Citrus, weak roots
« on: October 07, 2014, 07:50:12 PM »
Hey, so i have some citrus trees. Key lime, Meyers Lemon, and Satsuma mandarin. The threes have all been in the grown going on 6 years. But to day when I was picking fruit on my Satsuma I realized that the tree was loose and when I went and touched the the other two it was the same deal.

I honestly don't know if they had been well rooted and are now coming loose or if they have never been well root. The trees don't look insanely happy, but I wasn't particularly worried until I noticed how loose they are.

What could be causing that? And what can I do about it? Since a week root system is never good

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Duguetia, what's the deal?
« on: September 22, 2014, 02:22:08 PM »
So after finding my last Duguetia dead and having a couple people tell me about abysmal germination rates and sudden death of seedlings.

I'm sorta wondering, what's the deal? Has anyone had any success cultivating these?

Has anyone figured out the trick to getting these to grow?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / ID help. I guess is not Burmese Grape
« on: September 18, 2014, 06:58:49 PM »
So heres another one. I thought this was Burmese Grape (Baccaurea ramiflora) but I've never actually seen a Burmese grape. And I was told that they aren't supposed to have spines.

These are back from when I first joined the forum and did a really terrible job of labeling things

Close up of the spines

First, does everyone who has seen Burmese Grape agree its not Burmese Grape.

Second, any ideas what it might actually be?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Attn Annona Experts, Need some idea help
« on: September 18, 2014, 06:53:19 PM »
So this is a long shot cause I don't know anyone other than Mikesid who is growing these, but here it goes.

I got Annona neosalicifolia and Annona neosignis seeds from Helton maybe two years back and I thought I lost all the neosacifolia, but I also did a terrible job labeling the seeds and seedlings in subsequent repots. So I was picking through my collection looking for the best neosignis when I noticed this .

Both plants I have label Annona neosignis. That's tooooo much diversity for one species right? I must have screwed up the labeling.

My first question to the forumites is, do you agree I screwed up the labeling.

And my second question, any guesses which one is neosignis and which is neosalicifolia? Doesn't anyone know what a salicifolia or a signis leaf looks like and can take an educated guess?
