My overall production is poor.  1/3 of what it should be.

Well this gives me a touch of hope.  My overall flowering/fruit set has been abysmal.  A few trees doing OK, (ice cream great FWIW) but mostly a complete bust.

At this point zero flowers on :
Fairchild  (8 y.o)
Nam doc mai (8 y.o.)
Heidi (8 y.o.)
Cogshall (8 y.o.)
Haden (established)
Glenn ( established)
PPK (6 y.o.)
Val Carrie ( 5 y.o.)
Val Pride (established - has a date with my chainsaw)

Very limited on :

1 LZ  ( my other LZ on Tebow/young intergraft doing great)
1 CC ( my other CC on Tebow/young intergraft doing great)
Angie
Carrie

Mark,

That is too late.  I pick them before a color break.  Timing is tough to determine with them. I would say 2 weeks prior to the stage shown in the pic.

Cool to see more Ambers fruiting in SoFlo.  They look almost identical to mine.  My tree currently is holding 3 fruit of similar size.  Last summer my Amber matured 2 fruit, which iirc were late in the summer and fairly quick to size up and ripen.

My breadfruit tree matured 10-20 last year - I forgot the final #.  If this winter stays as warm like the current pattern, my guess is about 40 fruit.  Time will tell but he tree definitely has enough size to hold 50 or more..

What does your tree look like in the winter here?

Taken today

Sounds like a real winner !  Congrats 👍

I agree with Brandon.   That fruit looks a lot like and the taste description sounds a lot like ( great description BTW) what I have planted out as a "Berry Seedling".

Genetic variation or perhaps seed mix up?

Wow, thats impressive!   Gives me hope that mine could flower in the next few years

Great news on the flowering Jeff !  Pics please ...

My CC is like Jeff's for the most part.  Over the years I have had to make an effort to keep it off the ground.  It is the only mango I own that I have pruned to encourage vertical growth.

My Edward, Pina Colada, and the Lemon Zest portion of my topworked Young/Tebow are in similar stages of bloom.  It's a good thing, let them be.  Hopefully there will be a few early maturing fruit.

Mine is still growing - slowly but it does seem to be picking up a little.  Still in a relatively shaded area, putting out some beautiful and large leaves.  I'm 6'1" and the central leader is now at eye level.

Both the Amber and Berry matured fruit.  1 Berry, and 2 Amber.

Brandon and I found the Berry to be excellent.  To me it was the best I had all year.  Brandon Ranked it near the top as well.  But not everyone felt he same.  Harry, Abayomi, and Sheehan ranked it lower.

The Amber was also a Nice fruit.  I ranked it below Bangkok Lemon and Brandon's mystery Excalibur Red.  Sheehan however ranked the Amber above the Exc red.

Anyway, we can assume that both will improve with tree age.  IMO both are winners, especially considering their precocity and vigor.

I did not keep any seeds.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: How long for Jackfruit Trees to fruit?
« on: September 29, 2016, 01:54:23 PM »
If two to three years from grafted then how long abouts for a seed grown tree?

I've had seedlings fruit in 2 years, and others 5 years in the ground and still no fruit.

Quick update - my breadfruit tree is doing well, no protection this year.  Fruit are getting ripe now and there are about 10- 15 fruit on the tree.

Nope, my "Excalibur" is not long and skinny like that.

Surfer - That sucks :(.  Hopefully the fruit is good.
