Thanks, mangcau. I will pay you back the postage fee when you send me the scion/ seeds in March.

Is the fruit too sour to eat  ? I am not better than you when it comes to grafting. However, I don't give up and keep trying to one day I can do it. You mentioned about rooting. Have you ever tried and successed ? Is yes, please share you tips.
Your nickname is mangcau, sound like Vietnamese name, isn't it? You might love to eat mangcau very much to get that nick name!

Don't you pick for yourself and family? You don't like it? Is your tree very big? I have one tree but it did not give me enough fruits for me and family? If I live next to your house, I would come by to pick some. You are  very generous !

Tropical Fruit Discussion / How to kill grubs
« on: August 30, 2016, 10:40:44 PM »
My 30 gallon lychee have many small grubs. I wonder if there are their parents in the pots since I did not see big one yet? Please help me to get rid of them. I am afraid they will infest the others pots too. Should I repot my lychee , change the soil? Do you know where they come from since when I put the lychee to 30 gallons , i have not seen any.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: air layering question
« on: August 25, 2016, 08:23:14 PM »
I've tried a few ways to air layer.  The one I find most success in is soaking the sphagnum moss in the water for about 30 mins, wound the spot about an inch, rub rooting hormone or honey on, use a plastic bag to wrap the sphagnum moss around it, make sure to squeeze as much water off as you can, use black electric tape to seal both top and bottom from letting water in, seal the vertical line of the plastic bag as you close it, then use foil paper to wrap it again one more time to tighten everything.

Other things to keep in mind are the time of year (preferably summer with strong heat) and branch out in the sun instead of inside the canopy.  I've been able to do quava, plum, wax Jambu, lemon, orange, and cherimoya with this method.  I normally give it 3 months for the weather here in San Diego.  Good luck.

All sounds good, except one very minor detail: sphagnum moss only needs 5 minutes to soak up the water. Then you squeeze all the water out of the moss with your hands before applying. With lychee rooting hormone is not necessary.

Did you air layered cherimoya successfully? For how long?

Just posting  some pics of my rambutan trees and fruits...

Did you grow it from seed? Do you need two trees to set fruit? How long does it take your tree to bear fruit? I had some seedlings last year, but they all died from cold winter. It was sad to see them die gradually

I have three 3g Crown Jabos (Myrciaria coronado).  They were from Pine Island originally.

Varieties are:

Crown 1

Crown 2

Crown 3

The trees are approx.  2.5 ft from soil to top of trees.  All 3 trees are available for $30 each.  No pictures atm, but if you're serious, I could send them to your phone.

Small Discount available if you purchase all 3 trees.

Please explain variety crown 1, crown 2 and 3 mean. I was about to buy a tree listed jaboticaba crown 1 cost $75, but I did not understand the crown 1 represent for.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Soursop Pollination
« on: July 04, 2016, 01:28:15 PM »
Hi Dragon,

The flower buds were formed around August. They bloomed in November, but the little fruits look like dead for nearly two months. After that they grew slowly til ripe. Good luck with your plant Dragon. I heard that seeding plants can fruit in two years.

Cheer

Thanks for the infor, Tuan. It gives me hope and I am looking forward to the next coming months.

As today (July 2nd, 2016), after two years, a first soursop fruit ripe. Three more fruit still hang on the tree. The tree grows so fast. It is reaching my greenhouse roof top.
This is my first time eating a soursop fruit without sugar added. It's kind of sour. It lives to its name. It tastes much better with sugar and ice mixing

Hi Tuan,

Do you remember what month your tree had flowers? Your first fruit looked awesome ! I am jealous to your green thumb. I have one soursop that as tall as your tree first purchased. I don't think my is grafted one because I don't see the graft line. I wonder when my tree will bear fruit.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Graft jujube to pepper tree?
« on: June 22, 2016, 09:15:53 PM »
Patrick had lots of jujube rootstocks (root suckers) the last time I saw his yard. ;)

But if you buy a plant, you'll have lots of rootstocks popping up around your yard very soon.
Exotica and Ong are the places I can think of. I got some of mine from Roger Meyer(he's passed away).

I somehow have never had a jujube rootstock come up. Maybe my ground is too dense.

I am waiting for suckers from my jujube tree, but I have not seen anything for past three years I have it.
