Good to know! I almost tip pruned a couple of my trees. 
BTW gorgeous trees and nice selection!

Ok so, not sure if this should be a different thread but, since it's about what to do with the trees this time of year I give it a shot;

Should I apply bloom boosters now? A guy at a nursery in homestead told me to apply bloom booster Oct-Nov to my large lychee tree before it went dormant.  Does that work? Is that the right time? And would the same apply to mangoes or should I leave my mangoes alone?

I agree, will put it in a pot, but once it grows I will likely transplant.  But since they grow slow I still have time to make that decision.
I can't wait to try the fruit!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Got my achacha/achachairu!!!! Now I need help with planting and care please!

It's here! Beautiful little plant.  I got it from Montoso PR, it came nicely packaged and still moist.  I'm very happy with their customer service and product!

Now I don't want to kill it!!!!! Should I plant in ground right away? In a pot? What type of soil?
Any help with care is greatly appreciated.

Mmmmm..... Mango!!! I remember as a child in my native Puerto Rico collecting bags of mangoes from the floor underneath huge magestic trees!!! They were small, not that pretty and had fiber but they were so sweet!!!! I think the memories attached to it is what keeps me dreaming of mangoes!!!!
I also love quenepas/mamoncillos/guinep but I take one of those over lychee any day (but not the ones you buy in Fl) again that must be a childhood memory thing.

Well after confirmation that it is not desease resistant I gave it a severe pug!
It is now a 3/12 feet stump, if it comes back it will be more manageable to spray, if if doesn't I'll put a more resistant mango in its place....
I'll update on results!

I love getting the kent mangoes in later season in Robert is Here but the price is ridiculous so I bought the tree. I had it for 2 1/2 on the ground, 6-7 feet tall and it's never set fruit.  But that's ok I can wait.... What's getting me frustrated is that I have to spray it sor anthracnose so often.  It is the only one of my mangoes that has this problem. Is this a normal thing for Kent? Could it be the location I planted it?

Pancrazio, we both have the same tree. What I wanted to show you is that my Glenn has been very forgiving and takes hard pruning with no problem. 
But you can't start with a small cut and see how the tree responds to that and prune it more next year.

Pacrazio, awesome greenhouse/shelter!
I have a Glenn that has taken severe, unintended and then life saving pruning and has proven to be extremely resilient and forgiving! First I bought it for 1/2 the price of the other Glenns about 2 years ago in a 25 gallon, the nursery told me that the limbs broke during a severe storm.  That year, still in a pot, I went on vacation during 2 dry weeks and found disaster, so I gave it a very hard pugging. Last summer I planted it in ground, and this year it seems to be holding 5 little mangoes.
I know we have different growing conditions, but I would not fear the process of pugging.

Some of the yellow fall off by shaking it a bit, others I wiggle just a bit an they fall off.  The yellows have no future :( in addition there is big size discrepancy between the yellows and the green/burgundy.  But some of those yellows hang around for a good week or more after turning yellow. It has so many that I just felt its right to give it a bit of relief by thinning.

You are right! I thinned it today although it hurt so much to flick those babies out!
Still have a LOT, but I am sure as they grow some will still fall.  Last year I had one halfway there and it was gone :( I had 7 at the end of the season.  If I get at least 14 this year I'm a happy camper, plus I have 6 in the potted one that hopefully will give me 4, that one is ahead by 2-3 weeks.

Thanks for your feedback, it's always appreciated, especially since I am such a newbie with so much to learn!

Thanks for feedback now I'm excited about receiving this little tree! I actually ordered the larger one, it was 19 + shipping came to $36.
I'll post immediately after I get it. Should I put directly in ground, in a pot for a while?
It's intended location is on the north side of the house, a shady moist area most of the year with some sun in the summer.

I don't know of any nurseries with it for sale in S FL. Excalibur has one grafted tree in the greenhouse but I don't think they will sell it yet. Maybe in a few years after they get a few more going.

I think some of the members may have some seedlings for sale. Try creating a topic in the buy, sell, trade forum.

Excalibur was actually my first call, and indeed no achacha for sale.
But will create a thread thanks for the suggestion, didn't think of that before.
And the search begins again lol!!!

I have one in ground and one in a pot.  While it is true that my in ground has grown faster the potted one has done fantastic.  I get a lot of fruits from the in ground and just a few from the potted.  But I would rather fewer mangoes from the potted one than a dead plant. You can also try this winter in a pot and change your mind next year.  Whatever you choose good luck :)

OMG! Oscar, you had me at rats!!! Eeewww I just imagined those rats climbing in my roof! So yea Mrs. Carambola will go far from the house! I might jut put the sugar apple there or keep the mangoes I had in the pot.  I wanted to avoid the mango because the copper spray damages the walls. But I rather an ugly wall than a ratty roof!!!!
I will put the carambola in the place of the Valencia there is an 8ft hedge to the left and the wood fence behind that might help with the wind.
Thanks guys I will post pics when I'm done w/ transplanting.
