So is the sugar apple ok next to the house then?

27
That's called smart planting and taking advantage of good space!
French sorrel in front and a passionfruit seed in back.

28
That's the space I was thinking of.  Those pots are empty and will be moved, I also plan on taking all that grass out and put a little border.

The other space I have is this. The Valencia orange is sick and I will get rid of it. I will plant either the carambola, sugar apple or a NDM 4 or Fairchild I had in pots for over a year.  I just don't want to shade my Pickering to the right.

29
Adam, what is that you have on the little pot?

Nice trees!
The Valencia Pride is a beauty!

Hi guys I have a spot on the south side of the house that has space for one tree.  I have a key lime and a bannanas and they are both thriving on that side.  But there is plenty of space for another fruit tree.  I have a carambola and a sugar apple in 3 gal. pots.  Would the roots of either of these be bad too close to the house? What would you reccomend?
Thanks!!!

Absolutely beautiful! I hope you get a great crop this year!

33
Hummmm so I should give it a couple more years then. Glad to know they are like that because I almost took it out (prime real estate for another tree).
But I will give it some time thanks guys.

:-\ My Carrie is very healthy, flowering but the only mango with no fruit! What gives?
Oh and it did the same thing last year.

HELP! I have done my homework and I would like to try to grow the achacha and the garcinia intermedia. Problem is, I can't find them!  I found 2 places in PR, but does anyone know of a place in Florida?

37
Wow, wow, wow! Beautiful pics I am loving this thread :)

Zands those trees are a beauty!

Little potted Pickering I posted a pic of it few weeks ago, this is how it's doing today.  The in ground is full of panicles too, but the flowers are still closed. The Glenn and Carrie have a few too, I will take pics during the day.

Very interesting suggestions! Thanks :)
Unfortuately, I have never tried any garcinia.  Where could I find a fruit to taste and then plant the seed or the tree? I think based on what I read I would buy the tree without even trying the fruit.
The non fruit suggestions gave me a great idea to plant underneath other trees or in between the garcinias, I will look into those thanks for the suggestions.  I'm gonna research naranjilla because that's another one that I never tasted.

It's a large space and I will like to fill it up, I'm will start with the garcinias u guys suggested if I can find one ;)

Do you think cacao or dragon fruit (in pot) would like this spot?

Thanks for your responses! This spot will be my spring project, I will update with pics once completed.

I have a spot along the north side of my house that needs some tropical fruits! Well it's complete shade during winter and like 5-6 hours during the summer.  In addition is very damp as the a/c water goes there.  Initially I thought the jaboticabas, but they did not like the winter full shade.  What other recconendations do you guys have?
Thanks  ;)

What a beauty!  I can't wait for this years mango virtual tour!

I Have a key lime which is doing great, last year I harvested a bunch of fruit from it, and is pretty healthy. But I have a good size Valencia orange that is about to get the ax. Last year it blossomed and it held fruit that ripened with holes on it, the leaves have all different kinds of problems and pest eventhough I have sprayed copper and neem.  I am unfortunately done with it, in Fl I can buy decent oranges in plenty citrus stores, so I will use that space on something that will be less trouble and I can't find as easily or as good as it would be directly from backyard.  Sad but true.

Squam, thanks for that pic. I don't know how I missed it on the other forum.  It's a little bush, I'll probably prune mine every couple of years.

44
Woaha!!! 35ft!
Does anyone has a pic of a Pickering at least 10-12 feet tall? I would love to see if anyone could share! I know is a "newer" cultivar but there has to be one documented somewhere.
Harry, how wide is yours? How is the trunk? About how many fruits do you get from it.
Thanks!
BTW, sorry for all the spelling errors, autocorrect on phones are a blessing and a curse!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / How large will a Pickering mango tree get?
« on: February 01, 2012, 09:11:17 PM »
I currently have one in ground and another one potted.  I will like to add another one right next to the one in ground but the largest I've seen are just a bit larger and wider than mine.  I wonder if Amy of you could share pics of more mature Pickerings.

Here is my the in ground of course adorned by inpatients because she is the princess (I know I lost my mind).  Followed by a dwarfed Glenn (that's another story) and a Carrie in the end.

And here is the potted one.  Their growth habit seems different.

Sorry about the size of the pics I don't know how to fix it.

Thanks guys.  I will transplant to a larger pot, perhaps a smart pot, and I will update once I see any fruits, maybe next year?!?!? Hopefully it is a lancetilla.

48
Amazing! If you are able to do that up north, I wonder what you could do in little backyard in FL!!!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is this Lancetilla or rootstock?
« on: January 31, 2012, 07:33:20 PM »
Hi guys, another newbie question if you don't mind :)
Some time ago I went on vacation and came back to a dead lancetilla, I forgot about it and during our heavy rains it came back.  Now, I think is the rootstock.  I got it at Pine Island, is it this turpentine?
Thanks.
