Tropical Fruit Discussion / champange mango seed's
« on: June 01, 2014, 12:43:39 PM »
I live in the Ozarks,Arkansas and in the middle of the Ozarks forest is a Sam's Club with tons of champange mango's. I bought 6 boxes at $8.00 each.I planted a dozen seed's and they are coming up already. Question:  Is it worth growing in containers, are the tree's going to be big i mean big?Btw, they were pretty good for a store gought mango.
If this is not enough yesterday i went to Walmart yesterday and found several citrus tree's there, nice healthy tree's at $20.00. Red navel, Meyer, calamondin and a couple orange tree's.

Adam, the mr.minh i got from you is starting to take-off,just hope it continue to grow like yours. The jabo is also doing well.

My t budding is a little different. The horizontal cut is more of an arc rather than the usual straight cut. I find it much easier to lift the flaps.

208
I have in my collection: Smith, negronne, stella, chicago hardy, l.s.u gold, salc and some unnames.Pul-up all my magnolia's, very large tree's and large fruits no taste.
I do have a lot of damaged from this past winter, because i am in zone 7 and they are all in the ground, ofcourse the potted ones are all ok.

209
Paw-paw,s are bought back in 2003 from Raintree nursery, got the best tasting ones per their discription.i lost the tags on these tree's. Mango was one of them( killed during last year storm).
I also have one that grows closeby that is wild but large fruits(about the lenght of a dollar bill). My favorite!!
If someone wants sionwood i usely give them a discription of how they taste, i am like most grower you try to buy the best tasting fruits you want to grow.
I cannot count the tree's i have bought during the last 40 years or so that have died and i am still buyng.

210
Giombo, kiungsun ban si, Roya Brillianti, Sayo and a few different ones that have no names because last year storm i lost some tags/broken branches.
I also have a variety from Japan send to me 2 years ago(sionwood)from a friend of my of me who live in California who has this tree and have grafted them on native varieties(wild ones, they grow every where here on the property).
This one suppose to be very large and i believe them to be astringent,i might have a couple of tree's that have flower buds now. I have about a dozen grafted tree of this variety and i am very anxious.

I have a large variety of asian persimmons,paw-paw's, asian pears and a bunch of figs mainly.

My tropical plants and citrus tree's are healthy looking and are outside now.I am looking for a few fruitree's that are easy to grow.

That really looks excellent Jay, i am looking for pictures like what you are growing. Could you tell me how many tree's do you have in your sun room and how large is that room. What temp's do you keep in the room? Very encouraging!Bob

This is a converted stainedglass studio, with regular heating(72* degrees winter).Ceiling is ten feet high.
My manderin tree does not lose leaves and i am wondering about other tropicals wether it is ok to loose leaves at that temp.

217
Ofcourse mango, atmoya are the ones that everybody seems to grow.I am in zone 7 and have a heated room for the winter months.I currently grow a Page manderin tree in a container for 5 years now and it is growing good.

Thanks members for your help, i was in Florida on vacation back in the 80's in the Naples area and like it a lot ,quite laid back. I don't know what it like now, but while i walking in the down-town area i saw large mango tree's everywhere.I said then here is where i want to retire to, then ended inArkansas. We are thinking to move to Florida, one member said Miami if you can afford, nothing fancy for me, small house with i/2 acre is plenty.Oh, what about mango thieves, we have open season here now, just kidding.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Where in Florida?
« on: October 26, 2012, 11:47:10 AM »
Where in Florida would you be safe to grow tropicals fruits?

1: safe from winters(reasonable).
2: soil(moisture content).
3: East or west side.
Is there such thing as higher grounds,I prefer the west side north of Naples and south of Fort Meyers.
Growing near the Gulf better than more inland?
I am planning a serious fact finding trip within the next 2 months and appreciate any help from you.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Introduce Yourself
« on: October 21, 2012, 08:07:14 PM »
Spent 11 years on the island of Java, the town of Malang,Indonisia, thus i am very familiar with tropicals fruits. We had 4 acres of fruits describe on this forum.I like to add a mango variety that we grew that we grew with the name of kwennee, it is pronounce this way, but is spelled different i believe, it has lots of fibre and taste totally different(a aquired taste). It is a large fruit and you have to peel it thick and make shure you don't mesh with it or you end-up with thick lips.

I retired in Arkansas, U.S. now and like to grow a few tropicals fruits tree's.I am growing a Page Manderin tree for the last 5 years and it is doing good and so are my pomagranates. As i read articles in this Forum it brings back sweet memories(tears that is). Maybe i can find answers on this forum.
Bob.
