Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Borojo seed germination
« on: March 18, 2017, 10:07:57 AM »
I grabbed 3 little borojoa trees off Ebay. They are doing well, new growth and adjusted well to repotting. Seems to be a slow grower, so starting from seed is probably going to take a while even if you can germinate. Seeds probably need to be fresh.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Suggestions for container fruits
« on: February 24, 2017, 10:39:51 AM »
Miracle fruit, Ponderosa lemon tree, and piper nigrum vine are jamming in containers, producing nicely over and over. Also have a Sabara jabo that is growing very well and beautiful in a container, but has not yet flowered. Araza tree seems much happier in a container than it was in-ground. Oh, and my noni fruit tree is in a container, with a tap root going down through a hole and into the ground. Tree fruits like crazy.

Any other ideas? I've called Romney Farms several times, never an answer. Emailed them and my email was returned. Need new leads.

If it is the same thing I went to a year or so ago, then it is a little open house of sorts. A few vendors were selling various edible plants, orchids, ornamentals, and some other rare plants. Little bit of food. They were offering tours around the facility, not just the mango trees.

Thanks Brad. Time for another trip down to Homestead.

Hello All. I'm looking for acai and dwarf coconut trees. Any leads in the South Florida/Miami area? Willing to order with shipping if any knows of good sellers elsewhere. Thank you.

Glenn mango has 2nd round of flowers busting out now. Already has egg sized fruit from earlier flowers.

Rollina/biriba is covered in flowers. Dropped all leaves, and now every branch is covered in new growth and most are starting to show small flowers.

25th Annual Fairchild Mango Fest Sat July 1 and Sun the 2nd, 2017

http://www.ftg.org/events-community-outreach/international-mango-festival

It's worth going, even if it isn't what it used to be. Fairchild is nice on a bad day. They do sell trees from the Fairchild farm, and they've offered local mangoes every year I've gone. Missed it last year, but would surprised if there are no local and Fairchild grown mangoes.

Willing to travel north for more mango festivities as well!

Fruit and Spice Park hosts Mango Mania and Redlands Summer Fruit Festival on June 10.

Picked up an Oro Negro from PIN about a year-and-a-half ago. They were out of 3 gal, and I talked them into selling me a 1 gallon. Has worked out great. Since it has been in the ground, has grown to about 5.5 feet in 1 year. Bet it would have outgrown most 3 gallons planted at the same time.

red lady is doing great for us here in south Florida. large delicious fruits and very productive. ours is probably 8 to 9 feet tall.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fertilizing Biriba/Rollinia
« on: February 01, 2017, 11:51:10 AM »
Hello everyone. I have a biriba/rollinia tree in-ground that is probably 9 feet or more. It has what appear to be a few tiny flowers starting to pop out, first time it has flowered. Almost all of the leaves have recently dropped, has to be from the cold spells. Is it a good idea to fertilize now or should I just leave it be? It has been about 3+ months since last fertilization. Thanks!
