Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Greenhouse Suggestions
« on: March 09, 2017, 10:18:25 AM »
Hi Schutzhund. It depends on whether it takes to be greenhouse year-round or only seasonal. Seasonal, of course, easier to do and prepare than year-round. Of great importance is the location and specific construction of the greenhouse facility. In short, depending on whether it is from the south or from the north, how high is the greenhouses, whether they are large trees shading if they do not exist - you struggled with different issues. Regards. Dominik
I'm thinking year round, it's going to be a small 8 to 9 feet tall greenhouse in the corner of my yard

I'm currently working on building a small greenhouse that would house my Purple Mangosteen seedling along with other plants. And I was wondering if I can get some suggestions on what to include in the greenhouse that would help.

Dave

this looks more like you disturb the roots and replanted during Santa Ana's.  90F 7%humidity will suck the lives out of plants this time of year.

No the tree remained in the same pot that I got it in.

did you fertilize it?leave it in full sun? something you did made it go into shock

I didn't fertilize it, I kept it in the shade then gradually moved it into full sun. I'm thinking I may have over watered it.

Don't keep the soil moist. You will kill it from overwateting. Let the soil dry out and only water if the leaves start to droop. Hope this helps... You could also try and replant it in dry potting soil NOW. Good luck. Maybe someone else has a better idea...Lots of good info here.
I think I may have over watered it on accident because I didn't know. But The nursery told me I could exchange the plant for another, which is what I'm planning on doing.

I'm afraid it is. The shriveled green trunk and droopy leaves spell doom IMHO.
Thanks, I heard that this variety is a very difficult one to maintain

I got this Nam Doc Mai mango from Champa Nursery, and it had flowers already but recently it looks sort of like it's drying up even though I've kept the soil moist. So is it dying or something?

I grafted a Giant Mexican Sugar Apple onto a Cherimoya rootstock and I noticed this liquid oozing out of the tape
...

This is most probably a problem of overpowering sap flow. I have had this many times before and reported it on below thread.

Yeah I watered it a few days and I think that's why it's oozing sap, thanks ☺

tie it with nursery tape
I only have parafilm at the moment

use a piece of the green nursery tape holding your pitayas
Should I redo the graft, or just tie it off with the green tape

The cambiums don't look matched up in the photo. Did you match them up on the other side?
Have you grafted annonas or other plants before? You're not using grafting tape?
I have never grafted annonas before, and I used parafilm to wrap them

"Yes"; according to California Rare Fruit Growers' Plant Propagation Chart; "Common
commercial method".

I haven't done it myself, so, good luck!   :)
Thanks :)

Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to air-layer a longan, because I have an aunt who has this huge tree that produces very good longans and I was hoping to clone it.

Hello everyone.
I want to add a mango tree to my yard and need a little help/feedback from people who have tried these mango varieties.

Lemon Zest
Coconut Cream
Nam Doc Mai

Only have room for 1 more tree, so need to choose wisely lol

Thank you all!
Maybe you can try grafting multiple varieties onto one tree to save space

72
I have my guanabana in a 15 gallon next to my mango tree, and it's doing pretty fine

Where in downtown LA did you find them?
The 7th street produce market

That's cool that you got to try P. ligularis. Was it aromatic? I've never seen them in any international markets near me. Only P. edulis in purple and yellow at the grocery stores. But since I have a greenhouse, I can propagate them. I have had the opportunity to try some candies and juices with its flavoring, but little juice is actually used. Did you keep any seeds to try to grow? Idk if they'd thrive where you are, but why not try. :D
They didn't really have an aroma, but it was very delicious, and I did save a lot of seeds and already planted a few. Fingers crossed that they sprout. They just recently started to appear in fruit markets in the Downtown Los Angeles area

I came across this in a fruit market, it's one of the best tasting passion fruits that I have ever tried very sweet and flavorful no acidity at all like other passion fruits. I honestly ate like 6 of these cause of how good they were, just thought I'd share my experience.
I hope that some of you get to try it someday and if you have please share your thoughts and opinions.
