But it had only one fruit, it was green and with 2 fruit fly worms (not properly ripe). Anyway it was tasty, 12º Brix.

I dont have a refractometer now, but its sweetness is better now, I suppose something like 16º Brix or so.

The size is really big for an "arazá" that is a sister of the strawberry guava





It was very difficult to get it properly ripe here because of the fruit fly worms (and maybe because of our cold nights? 13º C), but I got some good fruits, as for instance this one:




As you can see, the bigger fruits are yet to come and I love this species: it tastes very complex, like a mix of pineaple, pear, apple, guava, strawberry guava, banana, plum and so on (I gave it to taste to some friends and family and they got all those flavours of different fruits, I agree) if properly ripe. If not properly ripe, it can taste to tomato or some vegetable, and it smells like an unripe banana.

When ripe It smells like it tastes. The perfume is not like a guava, nor like strawberry guava, it is not strong but I love it. Some parts of the skin are tart and some are sweet.

Hi, a friend got some seeds from a person who came from Brazil and gave them to him... she said the seeds are red inside if you brake them:

And in the next photo the new growth seems similar to red hybrid (the color and by the remarkable ribs)... but I dont know, the leaves are more elongated than my red hybrids... so... ¿?

The tree is from Misiones, maybe 3 or 4 years old. I have 2 more of them, they dont like full sun or wind.

I buyed these "big" (for Argentina) jaboticabas, 1.5 m tall (5 feet tall) or so.

I think they are myrciaria trunciflora (more likely to me) or myrciaria coronata, what do you think?






The seller wrote that the mother tree is more than 5 meters tall and the fruit is not so acid, so I think it could be sweet and very good. They should be 6 years old and maybe will flower soon!

A few weeks ago at Carlos Thays Botanical Garden I found ubajays on the ground and, as the perfume did not pleased me, it did not seem a good idea to eat them ... I barely bit one and it was very acidic, but other people wanted to taste them and they liked them, to this day I did not understand them...

Yesterday a friend harvested ubajays from their trees and he did not liked them either, so I asked him to give me some fruits to try: it did not seem so bad to me, they just have a very strong and acid flavor but there are other varieties that should be clearly superior, good and sweet (Miguel Pt and a nursery woman form Entre Rios).

For now I hope that my ubajays bear some fruit to see which one is the best - maybe I have the sweet variety given that a tree is from Entre Ríos and the nursery woman who sold it to me said that she has a good variety, with medlar (nispero) flavor. Then I will graft the trees of the acid variety with branches of the best variety, or perhaps I will leave them like this because I think that these acid fruits have a complex and interesting flavor tone to prepare ice cream ... in fact an overripe fruit had a much better perfume , similar to that of the uvaias, and I imagine that flavor prepared with a lot of sugar and I think it's fantastic for jams, sweets, candies ... it's a caramel-like taste but with something strange, with a strong "alcoholic" touch.

But if I try to ear them raw, natural: I dont like them.

I added some sugar and the almíbar from them was good

Hi, I dont know if call them spine or thorn (they dont hurt you), but I dont have another jaboticaba species that has this little spine-like at the tip of the leaves. Similar to guaviyú too, but softer.

It looks like grimal or sabará or coronata, but I dont know what is it in fact... the seller (from Misiones) of these seedlings told me that it bears big fruits, that is the only data I have!

The fruits were very tasty, sweet and acid, not too acid, like a mix of grapes, guavas and plums (but they were harvested a bit unripe and they traveled for 4 days so I think they were in the starting stage of a fermentation... they had a "wine" taste too). Soft to the touch.

To me, they dont have the green crown in the apex that should have a myrciaria coronata fruit, maybe they are sabará...

My english is not too good, I never speak english! I sound like an arab (dont have nothing against them).
