Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Persea mites
« on: June 24, 2017, 11:29:47 PM »
I would strongly reccomend using predatory mites.  I've used them on lots of outbreaks I've had on cannabis and have had amazing results. After about 1 or 2 weeks of the initial application I didn't have a trace of Spider Mites. Just did some research and there are quite a few California native species that would work well.  If you spray you will just need to continue spraying in the future, better to create an ecosystem that can support beneficial mites.

Do you order the benefical bugs online?

Yep, ordered them from RinconVitova although I know there's lots of retailers in California right now catering to the cannabis market.  It's a little expensive but if you have the money and the patience it's well worth it.  You can also talk to their representatives on the phone and they are really helpful.  Only thing is, if you decide to go this route you can't spray anything before or after. The mites need the negative population in order to thrive and survive.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Headed to Brazil, where do I go?
« on: June 07, 2017, 10:53:53 PM »
Hey everyone,
Headed to Brazil at the end of July for a couple of weeks and I am very interested in bringing seeds back with me. Anyone know of some nurseries, cool locations, botanists, fruit vendors or what will be fruiting around that time? I have no major plan yet so I am definitely mobile.
Thanks!
I'm definitely going to be in the Minas Gerais area for a bit, but would really love to get my hands on some cerrado species.
Mainly interested in Plinia, Myciara, Psidium, and anything else interesting.

Build soil structure and create a diverse ecosystem of microbes and fungi.  If you treat soil as the thing that you are trying to build and grow it will have long lasting benefits and help in nutrient retention.  Also planting things like Comfrey or other bioaccumulators would help a lot.
