Here are a few of the things ripening down here in San Diego.

Li II Jujubes, Lucumas, Starfruit, Pickering and Heidi Mangoes, Houghton Pitahaya, Green Tea Wax Jambus and Cedar Bay Cherries.

Waiting for a few other Mango varieties to ripen and my first crop of Pitomba after four flowerings.

Looks tasty mark, are the lucuma's from your tree?  I have a few different varieties flowering right now, including that seedling you gave me that flowered when it was only two feet tall.

have some Rollinia deliciosa seeds $1 each, minimum order of 8 seed.

also some garcinia aristata seeds....$3 ea, minimum order of 2 seed.

thanks!

I will add a few of the G. Aristata to my order we talked about earlier this week, but I have been trying to contact you for the last few days about the payment, are your Private messages working?

I know of a tree who sets fruits of a dark Orange color, instead of the conventional yellow ones!
Anyway of begging you for some seeds ;-)

Also does everyone get quite a bit of variability in the mex. Garcinia leaf shape? I have some that are fat , short and rounded.......and ones that are very long slender and pointed. Granted these are small plants and not mature, but the variability is very noticeable.

My rose apples have a round shape and I really enjoy them out of hand. Have you tried the fruit from other trees?
I have tried fruit from several trees, they were all very similar.

Our rose apples are also round.  We give them to our guests as an oddity.   Just weird texture (spongy) and taste (rose water). But pretty flowers!
I agree, they aren't bad when eating fresh- they just are kinda spongy and are completely hollow- just a small amount of flesh and not much to eat... But when you throw a few in the pot when making jams and jellies it adds a awesome flavor

The smell is wonderful, they aren't great for eating out of hand but are really good when used lightly in things like pastries or adding as a flavor enhancer when making other fruit jams and jellies.... This tree is so big and vigorous I want to top work it with a few different wax jambus since my family likes those much more. I just need to find some good varieties

Did you graft when it was dorment
Yup

Great looking fruit Sagan! I have that if you let the fruit get slightly soft and fall into your hand with a gentle tug they are at their peak sweetness and flavor.

Ed
Thanks Ed
That is very true, the longer you let it go the sweeter it will get, if you let them get a dark crimson color they are like straight sugar.

Pretty cool fruit, Sagan!  8)

From what I heard...grafting is done in spring before bud break.
Thank you!
I've had good success with a wide range of timing...but spring is probably best

Yes it's mine,  it's a variety with both male and female flowers, so no need to worry about pollination.
I grafted it on a Osage orange (Maclura pomifera) rootstock.

Yes, they are very good.  A large one can last for days, it ripens from one end to the other.  You eat what is soft and easily separates.
Peter
A good way to make sure you only eat the ripe part is to set it on a plate and cover it with a cloth and check it once a day. The tiles over the ripe part will fall off on their own and you can just cut off the ripe section daily.

I love them, dont eat them before they are ripe
Yes---they must be fully ripe, unless you enjoy the feeling of a jellyfish sting in the back of your throat ;-)

Here are the pictures of one of the smaller varieties,
it's hard to tell- but if you look at the plate in the picture (it's the same plate as the other picture) you can see the dramatic size difference.

what did it taste like? looks like it wood be starchy.

No not starchy at all, the fruit underneath the green "tiles" is as soft and creamy as a good banana and tastes like a mix of pineapple, banana, cherimoya.....

How does it taste?

Ed
Tastes great, much more complex than Hylocereus and very very sweet

Nice Sagan,

I love how you show the progression. I believe I have a similar strain as you. I am currently on the lookout for the Giant Yellow DF. I tasted the giant yellow in Hong Kong and they taste similar to ours but the larger ones were a bit sweeter. The Giant ones were about a pound each. Thanks for sharing!

Simon

Simon, this one was provided to me as a large fruited variety, the fruit is much larger and sweeter than my other two yellows and came in at around a pound if I remember correctly.
I would be happy to give you a cutting if you want.
I will try to find some more pictures of this large fruited ones next to the regular.

I was just checking some of my mangos in containers and saw this beauty. Not really big, but the color looks awesome. It is slightly soft, and was wondering when is the LZ at it's peak?

Looks great Mark! What size container?

May I ask how old the tree was? Very very nice to see a fruiting jabo in a pot!
I am not sure exactly, I bought it 5 years ago and it was about 4 foot tall at the time.

Nice tree where are you generally in California, thanks for posting Sagan 8)
I am in East San Diego

That's awesome.
Thank you!! Patience does pay off :-)

What's your address and what time do you go to bed? JK, that is awesome! They look very large, how long has your tree been in the ground and what variety is it?

Simon

Thanks simon! I would offer to send a bag of fruit your way but they are all gone :-D
My Jaboticabas are in 40gallon containers :-) this is only the third year this one fruited, the first time it made two fruit, then last year it made about a dozen, this year there were loads, this particular tree is the Sabara variety.

looks like they are going to be delicious...thanks for sharing pics.

looks like Sabara btw.

Thanks Adam, something interesting about this tree you may appreciate is it is actually two seedlings fused together, I couldn't figure out why only half of the tree was flowering and the other half was not- after close examination I can see where the two are fused at the base. But this year that half of the tree put out a bunch of flowers at the branch tips and one cluster on the trunk, so I think it's coming into productivity as well.
