i only feed my pineapple plants once a month and they do great i end up with some nice size pineapple plants and pineapples i grow just about all my pineapple plants in pots... the part of florida i live in pineapple plants don't seem to grow well in the ground i end up with smaller pineapples when growing in the ground as to growing in pots

Beautiful Jimmy, do you recall giving this plant a lot of fertilizer? I’m guessing that my over fertilization with Nitrogen on my White Jade induced it to form all those slips. I wanted a bunch of slips the first round but now that I have enough plant material, I want bigger fruit and less slips.

Simon

I only give the pineapple plants fertilizer once a month... each plant is different and wont always grow the same or produce the same amount of slips... but i would guess that to much Nitrogen could have something to do with it

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: ISO Red Spanish Pineapple Plant
« on: February 18, 2018, 05:08:11 PM »
It came from Excalibur Fruits but was unlabeled.  I can't se exactly what it was when they told me but I can recall "red" in the name.

Only thing i can think to do is to get in contact with them tell them you bought it from them sometime time ago and ask them if they ever grew and sold red Spanish pineapple plants at one time.... tell them when you got it. it didn't have a label  on it and you can't remember what it was called when you bought it from them

Here's my pineapple a month later.  Looks like a Spanish Red to me but what do I really know?

its possible it could be the same but its hard to tell unless you know for sure where it came from

Congratulations, I’m very interested in what it tastes like. Hopefully it will be sweet enough to balance the high vitamin C.

Simon

Thanks. I sure hope it turns out good the plant itself got pretty beat up during all the cold days we got last month. But it did do a lot better than the white sugarloaf did so hopefully we shell see

Thank you! I still have some pineapple plants in the garage with the door opened all day. Introducing them to the sun slowly. Should I put them out for the procedure?  ;D

they should be out in full sun so that way they grow better.... but yeah it would be best to do it outside.... when you get the rocks out of the bottle make sure your hands are dry

I'm going to force flower my Red Spanish Pineapple plants soon so that way they will have pineapple growing on them around the same time
its even been said that force flowering pineapple plants that the pineapples turn out to be sweeter than a pineapple plant that hasn't been force flowered... so we shell see how it turn's out

Force flowering them with : Calcium Carbide

Evildeadguy, could you tell us (one more time, please ::)) how do you us the Calcium Carbide? When did you apply it to the Red Spanish?

Make sure you water the pineapple plants first making sure to get water in the center cup where the pineapple will start to flower once water is in the center drop one calcium carbide into the center once it hits the water it will start to smoke up and that's all you need to do beside wait about 2 months and it should flower.... when the smoke is happening keep fire away from it ;)

Thanks i will keep everyone updated....

its funny how a full size pineapple takes 6 months but a queen pineapple cause there
baby pineapples they can take 4 to 5 months till ready to be picked... so i can't wait
to see how they turn out. Although i have tried them before when i bought them

it will be my first time trying one from my own grown plant :)
