In August 2009 I planted a seed from an NS1 fruit.  I now see two flowers, which I believe are one male and one female.  I am hopeful that it will hold fruit this year, time will tell.  I planted a seedling versus a grafted variety at the time thinking it would be more cold hardy.  I live in Pasco County about 35 miles north of Tampa so cold is an issue.

Foe fire ant control in the lawn I lay down dry molasses from the feed store.  Its my understanding that fire ants are protein eaters and avoid sugar.  Its worked very well this year.

I bought the rooibos from Sacred Succulents.  Right now Camforest is selling large packages of c. Sinensis.  I have 70 seeds that have sprouted with about 30 more to go.

Here is how i make the tea.  First I dry the calyxs, I have a pic showing a fresh and dried calyx side by side.



Once dried I place 6 calyxs in a french press along with a small piece of ginger, sometimes I will also add lemongrass. 




I let it steep for 10minutes and enjoy.

Use a knife to cut the top off which remove the seedpod.  I have dried them by running fishing line through the center and hanging them.  I also find they dry just fine in a single layer on whatevr you have handy.  Caution though the seedpods have irritating hairs on them so i wear latex gloves

Harvested a good amount of roselle from one of my bushes today.  I find roselle tea delicious.

Thanks for the repiles.  Yes this was an Agristart TC and the underside of the leaf is not red.  It didnt look right after it fruited thats why i posted about it.   Wonder what it is?

Yes there are def thorns on the leaf tips

I get yearly dieback on my pitomba, but get more growth than dieback, at least so far.  I have amended the area around the pitomba with a huge amount of wood chips/oak leaves and found they responded very well to the high organic matter. 

Enduser-  I find that my CORG is great some years and not so much in others.  This year they were barely edible.  Last year they were extremely good, better than the grumichama.  I don't know why the variablity between years.

Tomas-

I have 3 Mex Garcinia's.  They are each about 15" tall and the leaves measure 7-8" in length, not quite as long as yours, but maybe they will grow larger in time.

I am also curious about how the flavor of Whitmans charichuela fare's with the mexican garcinia and achachairu.

I have read a few posts responding to the cold tolerance of the mexican garcinia.  I would like to know the low temps they endured if you remember.

After not liking the first one, which was medium firm, I waited on the second to get soft.  It almost reminded me of papaya with the 'papain' taste.

I have some pitombas that are starting to color up, can't wait to try them!
