wow Simon! I think I need to do a whole bunch more reading before I can understand the proper usage of all of your fertilizers! ;)

I use a combination of time release and "quicker" release fertilizer for younger trees.  This ensures the trees have nutrition and allows for more nutrition during the summer months.  ECHO supposedly had problems growing fruit trees, until they started using time release fertilizers.  Time release helps to ensure consistent nutrition.

What kind of quicker release fertilizers specifically are you using and do you worry about root burn with those?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / your favorite research sites?
« on: June 02, 2017, 01:59:11 PM »
Hi everyone,
I'm totally enjoying reading about the trees that I just planted. Besides just googling fairly superficial information, do you guys have favorite research sites to go on that will tell you more detail about each tree? Like when exactly it would like to get fertilized? What kind of micronutrients it needs etc?
Thanks!
Sabrina

I train my tree into one trunk. Cutting off other branchs. Umbrella shape is the best... looks clean and easy to pick fruits

I just planted one I got from a nursery and it's about 3 feet tall and bushy right now. Should I start pruning it to a single stem now or wait until winter?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Dying Wax Jambu Apple Tree
« on: May 27, 2017, 11:09:29 PM »
Hi everyone! I live in SoCal and have heard of people here successfully growing wax apple trees. I planted one 10 days ago but now the leaves are turning a weird brown red color from the middle of the leaves first. I know these trees aren't supposed to get a ton of water. We unfortunately have clay type soil but our gardener told us to water it everyday for the first week. I now backed off to watering every 3 days. The leaves don't feel dry... you guys think this is an overwatering issue?? I'm so sad! I was so so excited about the possibility of growing wax apples. I haven't had them in years!'
