Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Avocado thread
« on: April 05, 2018, 02:10:25 AM »
My young Reed is blooming. I see a couple of tiny fruits. It's not holding  any fruits from last year.

My neighbor's Hass bloomed 1st week of March last year, earlier than my Reed. There were no fruits on the Hass.
This year, with fruits still holding, it's beginning to bloom.

So your Reed should bloom a bit later when it's holding fruits.

My DF flowers have up to 10 bees inside in the morning so I don't ever hand pollinate them.

50 lbs is $40 here. Not many people dump that much on a tree here.
Fertilizer is cheaper.

Use custard Apple as inter stock .

My interpretation of those slides is that you pinch the tip when it's growing to get more buds to grow.

I cut tips during dormancy and get 3 buds to grow.

6
I see weed cover so I'm wondering.

7
Did you cut holes out under the pots?

Kaffir leaf has more citronella oil so it smells stronger, repel mosquito better.
I use Bearss leaves for grilled chicken since the Kaffir branch on my Bearss tree is tiny.

9
I ordered on Amazon and got seeds a littler bigger than strawberry seeds.

Is there a dwarf Royal Poinciana?

Slow release like Osmocote is not fool proof. My cherimoya seedlings got burned after I top dress. The good thing about it is I can pick them off.

I'm not up to raising worms. I haven't gone fishing for 2 years.

I try to use Vigoro for in ground plants, every month. It has only 0.90% Urea slow release.

The other slow release fertilizers are much better at slow release.

I use Osmocote Plus. $15 for 8 lb from Amazon.

Very good taper on that pond apple. My cherimoya rootstocks look anemic.

Nice raised bed.

Nap and toilet breaks?

I would keep it to help developing bigger trunk. Remove it after new central leader get decent size.

Other option is to trim stub and strap the branch to a stake to make 45 degree. Tighten straps slowly, like every 3-4 days, until it get upright. Don't strap it upright first day.

I got 1/6 germinated. It looks like it could dry up any day.

Yours is looking great.

His area could be 90% every day. No need to bag.

That guy seems to know what he's doing. Nice video.

In a few months you get 1 root. Very poor root. That's why success rate for air-layering cherimoya is 5%.

I gave up air-layering cherimoya and only graft now.

Model your surrounding in Sketchup Make. It's free.
Add your coordinates. Turn on shadow. You can watch shadows any time of the year.

Then pick your trees.
