Tropical Fruit Discussion / Cherimoya fruit problem
« on: October 19, 2017, 10:01:03 PM »
I was given a cherimoya fruit. It looked nasty.
It got worst as I did more cuts.

Do you know what the problem is? Is there a way for the owner to improve this tree?

The swapmeet I go to is Golden West College in Huntington Beach.
I haven't seen any $4 cherimoya root stock lately.
Merchants sell multi-grafted tree there.

Easier of JF sell you one, so you don't need to search.
He won't sell me one. But you can try.

There are plenty of atemoya tree at swapmeet in OC every weekend. The only issue is that you won't get named cultivar.

Sugar apple flower is 5.8x more potent than atemoya flower.
I have 6 atemoya tree and no sugar apple tree.  :'(

There are issues and benefits to slash and burn. We can solve them.

My Reed had white powder around the prune wound. It was just dried sap.

I would cut the top off now. Cut it at knee high. Don't worry. New buds would come out soon.

He's too embarrassed to post the low price.
It's like free seeds but you pay shipping and handling.

Buy the cheapest pump you could find and drain your lot? A sump pump with tubing would work.
Is your street flooding?

Not taste the same.

None of those images viewable.

I soaked the seeds for 72 hours then scarified them.

The one with the most shell removed is the first one to germinate.
The other 5 are still dormant.
This is how it looks after 14 days.

The problem with Mangosteen is that its roots are poor. Foliar spray might be the best way to feed Mangosteen.

Bacteria break down compost. Bacteria don't play nice with fungi. Once you introduce compost into your soil, say bye bye to your fungi.

Lauderdale here - Somebody mentioned re-bar for stakes...it worked... lots of defoliation but a few small trees still upright...  thanks for the tip.

Rebar is easy to get, easy to pound into the ground next to the trunk. It gives iron to the tree.

I prefer fiberglass stake. It lets the tree flex so the tree develop better trunk.

I got my seeds today. I scarify around the seeds and soaking them in water.

What have you done with your seeds?
Do they show any sign of germinating?

Too bushy. I would trim tips back to 4" so not much leaves left to flap around.
