Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Dragon Fruit thread.
« on: July 16, 2017, 06:41:35 PM »
Guys, I'm new to dragon fruit and I just bought this small tree at the nursery, but I would like to put it in the ground and make a new trellis for it, will disturbing its roots cause it to die? What do I need to do first? Please help

This is my 4 feet tree. I'm really a big fan of the annonas so I have a total of 17 trees in my small garden.  ::)

Today I cut down a bunch of my atemoya's flowers as I heard some people said it will help the tree's growth. Is it true? Or it won't matter? It's a 4 foot atemoya's tree with a 1" trunk, but it has over 18 pea size fruits, so I removed most of its flowers and just leave it with 6 fruits. Am I doing anything wrong? I'm just afraid my tree will die..

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sapodilla pollination
« on: July 05, 2017, 10:45:39 AM »
I have 2 sapodilla trees, both on the ground, 8 feet tall. One with no flower, and the other one with tons of flowers. Any ideas how to pollinate the sapodilla tree? Thanks

Yes!! I finally got hand pollination right. All my atemoya trees have small fruitlets now. Hopefully it will hold as I have no idea what variety of atemoya trees I have. On the other hand, none of my cherimoya trees have any fruit yet :(.

Samu, so when the female flowers turn male flowers, can I still collect the pollen from the flowers that I already hand pollinated?

So, even when the female flowers turn male flower after hand pollination, it's still can be successful?

Thanks

Guys, I have few questions in regards to hand pollination for the Atemoya and Cherimoya trees. I have hand pollinated roughly 100 flowers, but 100% failed :(. I have 4 atemoya trees and 3 cherimoyas, many flowers, but I do not know whether I did it right or not.

1. How can I tell if I hand pollinate successfully?
2. If the female flower turns into a male flower, is that means the process failed?
3. What is the sign to look for and how long can I expect to see if the result of hand pollination is successful?

Thank you!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Why my Longan fruits all dropped?
« on: June 24, 2017, 12:18:52 AM »
My longan tree is 8 years old on the ground, trunk size about 3", 9 feet tall, 9 feet wide. I put blood meal, fish & seaweed harvest, and give the tree potassium sulfide 0050. I water the tree every 3 days. I bought this tree when it was in a pot and I transplanted it about 1.5 years now. Last year it didn't have any flower. This year it has so many flowers, but most small fruits dropped. The temperature here during the day this week is between 80-99 degree.

Any ideas why my longan tree dropped most of the small fruits? Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Why my Longan fruits all dropped?
« on: June 15, 2017, 01:27:02 AM »
Hello, I have 3 Longan trees, they all have flowers nicely and have small fruits, but then all the small pepper size fruits all dropped. I'm soooo sad  :'( Anyone have any ideas why? Also, anyone knows what's the best way to reduce pH level? Thanks
