Tropical Fruit Discussion / iron treatment ???
« on: October 21, 2017, 03:10:16 PM »
Hi All, sometimes i get to thinking not often tho , for the people who live in areas with NO or very low iron in the soil rather than buying all the stuff and have to keep putting it on all the time, could you not just take scrape rebar and knock it down in the ground and call it a day??? i would think that it would last almost forever, its easy to comeby almost any large construction job where they use concrete and rebar will have lots of it scrap.             Patrick

Do you know of any cheap shipping method from US to Canada? First class package is $9.50, and international flat rate is $25 for the smallest box. Ouch! Domestic package is only $2.67 for the first 4 ounces.
Fang you can send it as a letter for $1.15 i get cheep greeting cards from the dollar store , also i use a small patch of bubble wrap pop a bubble and push the seeds around through it i tape this to the center of the envelope to keep it from moving around, cards are hand sorted not ran through the machine , this works well for seeds cherimoya size and smaller.  hope this may help .        Regards       Patrick

Cherimoya  ARE NOT true to seed also a ungrafted tree takes much longer to produce than a grafted tree  best to plant the seeds now and graft on them next year. i have one of my trees that always fruits early so i have fresh seeds now if you want to come by and get a few.         Patrick

Thanks for the feedback , this bag contained i type of fungi  ( Glomus intraradices ) @ 80 spores per gram i tried it in 2 raised beds i with green beans 1 with Strawberrys  i could see nu difference between the treated and untreated beds. at the end of season i also could not see any difference in the root systems or the condition of the soil , o well i enjoyed myself and my dreams while trying it.                                          Regards         Patrick

Tropical Fruit Discussion / mycorrhizal inoculant
« on: September 19, 2017, 01:44:12 PM »
Hi all, i have heard / read a lot on this however how do you know if what you buy is even alive i bought a bag of  "Mykos pure Mycorrhizal inoculant "in the spring and used it in my raised beds and some potted plants i also used it in my potting mix for my seedlings, the thing is when i dig in to these i see no signs of any growth , so 3 weeks ago i took 2 cups of very moist Alfalfa pellets along with 2 heaping tablespoons of inoculant  and i put it in a coffee can with a lid and a couple holes in it, i see NO GROWTH YET.so my question is how do you test this stuff when you buy it to know if it is alive or not ??         Regards       Patrick

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Strawberry Papaya - Not Flowering
« on: August 30, 2017, 12:37:59 AM »
Behl, i somehow thought your papaya was in a POT so it would be easy to move"sorry "  they do not like to be transplanted any damage to the roots will  most likely kill them  perhaps you can hang a piece of shade cloth behind it to cut down on the reflected  heat , they also like quite a bit of humidity,  you might try cutting back on your water if you can trying to keep your soil just barely moist rather than moist ,  hope this is of some help.          Patrick

Behl,  stop the chain saw DOOOOO not cut it down it WILL NOT CHANGE SEX try moving the pot to where you do not get so much reflected heat from your house  you can move it back around nov. when the nights cool of they do not seem to enjoy the hot reflected heat so much especially when in a pot , also the height of the tree has nothing to do with flowering      Patrink

i was given 2 tubers this spring,i put 1 ea in 15 gal pots just for temp. growing very well however my flowers do not look like small sunflowers at all they are red or yellow or mixed ,they open at night for and close in the morning they also smell like honeysuckle at night only, every bloom produces a seed , i put 11 seeds in a baggie with a damp paper and 7 have sprouted after 5 days  i clipped the tip of the seed off with nail clippers.             Regards     Patrick

what are you trying to do?? and what is your currant known soil ph  ???          Patrick

Hi Van, i have never been a fan of amending soil, i would rather keep a nice mulch on top if the soil is really clay watering it daily would most likely be waaay to much and you would rot the roots, i would graft it now if you have the wood worst thing that can happen is you wind up pugging the tree, one year from now is really a long way off.        Regards    Patrick

one fun thing you can do with long air layers 6'or so is to take 3-4-5-6 of them and braid them together they will fuse themselves together and will be self supporting .
