Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Jakfruit 2016
« on: July 18, 2016, 05:00:23 PM »

Here's my Excalibur red jackfruit.  It's fruiting for the first time and has already set five fruit, I'm going to limit it at three or four fruit this year.

Unless the color changes as the tree matures I guess I got a mislabeled Excalibur Red. Does anyone have any idea what cultivar this is?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Rollinia fruit problem

I don't believe pollination could have been an issue.  The bases of unpollinated flowers abort in about a week, when about 1/8th of an inch diameter.
They do not get to be two inches in diameter!

So I suspect your tree has a mineral deficiency (Boron?  Zinc?) or an infection.

Great thank you Har.  I was hoping you would chime in.  Could it be a fungus?  Would copper or sulfur be better and at what rate?  I'll give it some key plex and see if that helps.

Did the tree grow out of it or does it still abort the fruit?
Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Rollinia fruit problem
« on: June 30, 2016, 09:53:03 PM »
My rollinia tree is around five years in the ground and should be large enough to hold fruit but it hasn't held one to maturity yet.  It sets what seems like hundreds but when they get to marble size the stem gets black then the fruit does and they fall off.  A friend thinks it's anthracnose and I plan on spraying some copper to see if it helps.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Papaya fruit fly on canistel

First of all this looks like a papaya fruit fly to me but I'm definitely not an expert on bug identification, please correct me if I'm mistaken on the ID.  Is this common that the papaya ff target canistel?  Any control methods besides bagging?

Thanks

If I recall correctly it's been in the ground around two and a half to three years.

Ed you can probably sell it to a landscape company.  They will come and remove it and give you money to buy more mango trees after they do all the work removing it.

I will have some later in the summer.  My season usually starts around August.  If you remind me then I could send you a box of fruit, I'm not sure how well they would ship though.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: How Often Can I Use Agri-Fos?
« on: February 12, 2016, 06:30:59 PM »
Can Agri Fos be combined with sulfur to prevent powdery mildew and anthracnose at the same time for mango blooms?  Whats the proper dose for sulfur?  Can both be sprayed on open blooms?

I can send you some sapodilla seeds but they don't come true from seed.

45
Nakul, I wouldn't expect you to pay the postage (or for the cuttings/plants), it would be my gift to you. One gardener sharing with another.

That's what is so great about this forum!!!  I know I have sent and received seeds from all over the place and it was all done out of just kindness.  There are some very generous people on this forum.  A kind of pay it forward with plants.

Rob,

How long would you estimate a three gal green sapote would take to come into bearing?

Here's one from my 2 year old seedling tree.  It was 13 oz, and tasted just like the mother trees fruit.
