Citrus General Discussion / Re: HELP! Sick trees!

Just be aware that if you use "soil drench" or systemic pesticide, that this will be in the fruits too. For trees this small you can put a fine netting up to prevent the LM moth laying eggs on the new flush.

Lori would you know if this lemon is available in the USA?

some I talked to the people from the nursery where the tree came from (end of june) They said that some trees take longer to recover from shipping stress. I guess I still need to wait and hope it will decide soon to put out some new growth.

Yes I would assume at least water goes through. But why no nutrition? Tree was light in color when it came here eight weeks ago. All others greened up and most all put on new growth. I got aTrovita the same time that had seven fruits on it. Left them on because the tree looked so strong. Even got new growth despite all the fruits. After some consideration (winds in particular in fall) I decided to take them all but two off. So I think my fertilizing must do something just not to this one. I was just wondering what else could cause this. Maybe just slow and before winter will see some growth? Right now I doubt more fertilizer would do anything.
Trovita before cutting the fruits off couple of days ago.

new growth

I have Meyer and Feminello. Love the Meyer for ice tea in summer but the Feminello in my opinion is the best tasting lemon not only for the acidity but for the aroma.

Millet I don't know what to answer to that. If you look at the two, both same treatment, one growing gangbuster and dark green, the other one the total opposite, wouldn't it be more plausible to think something is wrong with the ability to take up nutritions?

Millet this tree get the same FP fertilizer plus organic citrus fert. every four weeks. It is not the lack of nitrogen I assume.
I water with rain water. This plant has not moved one bit. No new growth despite food and water.
When you say 250ppm nitrogen, what do I use? This is the only tree in my collection looking like this.

Citrus General Discussion / Cara Cara yellow leaves??
« on: August 29, 2017, 10:19:14 AM »
I got two cara cara a couple of weeks ago. Right from the beginning one looked very pale and the other one a bit more green. After re potting one of the plants really darkened and put out a lot of new growth while the other one did nothing but instead got more ad more yellow. I thought as long as the leaves are not falling off, still hope for a turnaround. Now the leaves are dropping, weather changes and no sign of any growth. What is wrong with this tree? Is there a chance it can survive?

and new growth

Citrus General Discussion / Re: What Grafting Can Do
« on: August 27, 2017, 11:05:16 AM »
Another question I have, what would be a good rootstock to graft all different varieties? I assume it would depend on climate and whether in ground or container? For me it is zone 5/6 and in container.
How many grafts ? I assume at one point I can no longer graft on the stem and it would need to go on branches. I think not every one is compatible? Is there a list of rules somewhere that shows compatibility?

Any hints where to find info about this tree? Would love to read up on it.

That is impressive. I have seen those trees with two or three differend apples, heard about friendship trees but would never have thought about how beautiful this could look with different colors.
Everybody I heard talking about grafting more varieties on one tree how problematic it is with different growth rates.
This tree makes me wonder how much growth rate is controlled by the stem it is on and would it be even possible to grow all different citrus varieties on one tree????

Maybe a combination of Parasites (mites, thrips?) and fungus?
What did you use to treat the tree?
I would think that whatever you used willl not cure the leaves but prevent from spreading to the new flush. Seems that looks healthy and green??

Mayne find a cure for the sick psyllid??? I know, strange way to think.
Any natural predators in China?

If the psyllid prefers new flush to lay eggs, maybe it would help to delay fertilizing the trees? Or put a screen around during new flush to minimize attack?
What makes this pest feel comfy or uncomfortable?

Another thought I had was, how do workers protect the screened area from bringing parasites in on their clothes?? Or other pathogens for that matter? And how do they think will this benefit the rest of the citrus grower?
Wouldn't it be wiser to invest finances and times to increase immunity of citrus trees??? I think this is putting on the saddle from the wrong end.
Working with the Bayer is a much better idea. Not that i'm all for pesticides but maybe they will be able to find a missing link to help strengthen the trees. If I remember right there was a talk about the fertilizer used in big commercial growers and lacking of some ingredient. Potassium???

sounds futuristic. "Under the Dome" kinda. Just not sure if that really is feasible. I mean even if it works, it will add to the production cost in a way that people will not be able to afford buying fruits or juice.

I water all my trees with condense water from the de-humidifier that I collect in a rain barrel for winter use. It is better then my hard well water.

I would say that is personal preference? Some like a tree form others might prefer bush. If this would be my tree I probably would let it grow a little bit more before pinching off the top.

that is soo true :)
