If you cut the fruit from top to bottom like a slice apple it will be easier to consume.

I have a valencia pride on manila rootstock.  It was purchased at walter anderson.  You can still buy them.  But they are a little pricey compare to others.  I planted it last summer and it is going fast.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Cherimoya and atemoya leaves
« on: January 08, 2018, 11:04:48 PM »
Hi All,

Do we strip the leaves now or in feb to generate new growth.  I live in san diego.   I usually let the leaves fall off on their own but i am reconsidering.  I recent finds some orchard in asia strips the leaves and trim the branches twice a year to generate two crops per year.    Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Local san diego scions
« on: December 09, 2017, 11:06:21 PM »
Hi All,

I do not know if you can help me.  I am going to vietnam on december 22nd and will bring some scions wood to Mr. Mai Van Tri at SOFR.  http://sofri.org.vn/About.aspx?l=1 He works at a substation of sofri in the south east region, based in Ba ria Vung Tau province.

My annona collection are young and immature.  However I am able to provide scion wood for an african pride, Lisa, and a red Ilama.

I am writing to ask if you can provide some scions to help him in his research.  Because of his teopical climate, i am asking for atemoya scions.

Thank You,

Mike Doan

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Australian atemoya

Treasure of the tropics is also Top tropicals. They get  trees from Fruitscapes.
They also graft some of their own trees.  Chances are you have a Tim which was supposed to
be a superior variety from Australia?
Treasures of the tropics is not top tropicals. My understanding was she used to work there but now started her own business with a partner.

It’s a African Pride.

She got back to me and it is african pride.  Smh.  I wonder why she tells me it is an australian when it is an african pride.  O well.  She already got it qurantine and ready to ship to me on monday.  It is still a cheap tree.  I will have to gift this tree to my parents.

But i got some nice mango trees from her for cheap.

It is not a geffner for sure because she has a geffner for sale.

Nah, it is a different cultivar being called Australia here. Steve said that it is a cultivar from Australia that he received from a grower in California. Tim and Australia are two different varieties being propagated by Fruitscapes. I think both came from "Tim" in California but I could be wrong about that.

All i know is Treasure of the tropics is located in florida and she sells all her trees on ebay at very reasonible price and she can ship all over continental us.  She called it an australian but it may be an african pride.
Damn now I got to get the Australian one that fruitscapes has!
Mikey where is Treasures of the tropics located? Ft Myers?

He now sales his 15gallon phet pakchong for $375.  His wife told me in the begining the Phet pakchong was really expensive because it was hard to import.

Now you can get a three gallons of the phet pakchong for 75 bucks but not from Ong.

Jf,

Does ong’s lisa looks like the typical lisa?  I mean the kids holding the atemoya, do the lisa atemoya look normal?

I did the hybridizing of the 'Lisa' (48---26) when I worked at Zill's.

I don't recognize that third picture.

I do not know why he called it lisa?  It doesn’t look like JF’s Lisa.  The immature fruit has a dark tone like it was black.  I even try to rube off the powder and it was still a dark green.  His trees are Large and he sells his 15 gallons for 375 dollars.  i have not taste them yet but will in the spring.  Ong will also let me try their “red atemoya” and claim it is not a 4718.

Below are the Lisa atemoya that his niece are holding.  This is also from his website.
