Tropical Fruit Discussion / lisa Atemoya
« on: November 18, 2017, 04:08:45 PM »
I had nothing to do today so i went to ong’s nursery and found his Lisa Atemoya.  He has Lisa in a yellow collor and this color.  I dont know if they are the same kind.  Maybe whrn it is imature it is dark and when it mature it turns yellow.

Are there different Lisa Atemoya?  I see some that are pink in the forum.

Ong just sold a 4718 to a lack luster collector for 2.5k in a 45 gallon!!!!!

The strangest thing about this tree is the flowers.  The bottom of the petals have a pink pink center near the opening on the underside of the petals.

Is this the same observation about the 4718 flowers?
Is this the same red atemoya

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pond apple rootstock San Diego
« on: November 14, 2017, 04:57:29 PM »
Hi All,

How well does pond apple grow in San Diego?  I want to use them as rootstock.  I got some seeds from Florida and they sprouted.

I want to graft Ilama onto them but I don’t know how tolerance they are in Southern California.

thanks!

Coconut shells burn well.  U can use the husk but the shell will have better flavor and it burn real fast from the oil.

How do you guys manage to buy tropical plants from these CRFG folks? I checked their webpage, but there's nothing on it. It has mostly pictures of some old folkies and their trees and fruits. Thanks!

They sell their tree once a year.  It is meanly private individual that donate.   They had some large cacao plant to but I’m only interested in annonas.

Thanks for the post.  At first I thought it was not a good fruit because of the review by prince on the search.  But after reading Raul post it made me more interested in growing soncoya since it smell like durian.

Have anyone try soncoya?  I just purchased the tree at the San Diego chapter of CRFG for cheap.  Have anyone try this fruit?  How would you rank it with other annonas?  What is its texture?  Smell?  And flavor?

Jf,

Ong told me that ilama needs heat in order to produce sweet fruit.  What are your finding in growing your rosada, Guillermo, and Genova red?

Annona reticulata is also called bullocks heart here also with the name custard apple applying to atemoya mostly. Some like varieties like sarteneja are reddish inside as well as having red skin. They are not as good as atemoya or even sugar apples for taste really being a bit blander and poorer types can be gritty. That being said they are still a nice fruit with good flesh yield.

Which annona with  red meat is  best tasting and can grow in thailand? I have red noina pakchong but is not red meat.

Please show use picture of the red noina pakchong.

If the foliage die and you have fruit, then the fruit die.  But we won’t know until we see it.  Have anyone in Southern California produce fruit from soursop?  I’ve seen them flower but I have not seen them fruit.

The real question is will the soursop foliage survive  the winter or will it all fall off and regenerate new foliage in the spring?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sugar apple in san diego

Can sugar apple grow in San Diego from seeds mature to fruit?  I know grafted sugar apple on cherimoya can survive Southern California but can a sugar apple grown from seed survive?
