Tropical Fruit Discussion / Ilama seeds have not sprouted
« on: April 01, 2018, 12:26:44 PM »
Hi,
I planted ilama seeds on Feb 15, 2018.  The seeds were treated with
GA3 by the seller. However, still no sign of sprouting.  Is it possible the
seeds are still alive and might sprout in the future?  Thanks

Hi,
Are there any atemoya cultivars you would not recommend and why?
Maybe because it has weird taste or are not productive?  Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Will rats attack dragon fruit?
« on: March 26, 2018, 04:22:48 PM »
Hi,
So we bought this abandoned house near the stream.  The neighbor said
giant rats would come up and eat all the avocados on his tree. I was
thinking of growing dragon fruit on the fence since I don't think rats would
like the taste of dragon fruit but I really don't know.  Does anyone have first
hand experience with this?  Do you know what fruits rats don't like and would
leave alone. Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Dream annona question
« on: March 05, 2018, 10:48:07 AM »
Last week I grafted a couple Dream annona scions onto my soursop seedling.
Assuming, the scions take and start growing well and in a few years the tree start fruiting.
Would this success mean that the Dream annona is indeed a cherimoya since atemoya scions
are not supposed to be compatible with soursop rootstock?  Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is my Isan Indigo sugar apple a runt?
« on: March 04, 2018, 10:42:33 PM »

Hi,

This is my Isan Indigo sugar apple.  It germinated on 10-16-2017.  I got 4 out of 6 seeds to germinate.  But some pest
ate the others 3 seedlings.  Does the surviving seedling look like a runt to you?  How's yours looking?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Annona grafting and rain question
« on: February 28, 2018, 09:19:31 AM »
Hi,
Do you have to wait for the rootstock plant to dry out before
you do the cleft cut?  After grafting, if it rains do you have to
cover the plant in a plastic bag?  I will be using parafilm.
Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Whitman's fiberless soursop is sour
« on: February 11, 2018, 01:35:24 AM »

Hello everyone,
This is my 3 year old Whitman's fiber-less soursop. The fruit is indeed almost fiber-free..has the texture of atemoyas ... unfortunately it is sour. Was told the tree might not be productive...however my 3 years old tree produced 5 fruits.  Still made an excellent smoothie since no fiber.  Got the the grafted tree from Frankie's Nursery.  Notice the strange blue greyish leaves.

Is this a non productive cultivar?
