Hello Friends,

Thanks for all the nice compliments.

Simon - I'll be sure to post pictures when the others fruit.  Thanks Again!

Marklee - Wow, that is an incredible Jaboticaba.  It is absolutely gorgeous!  Congratulations on the fruiting.

Oscar - Thanks!  If you think it will improve fruit production, I will give it a "haircut" this weekend.

Hello Friends,

Thank you all for the nice compliments!

Yes this is the "Royal Purple" from Ed Ensey's Grove in Merritt Island.  As for the taste, there have been some very different expriences from many forum mambers.  All I can do is tell you how they tasted when I tried them.  They were absolutely delicious.  Almost no detectable fiber, very juicy, and of course the most interesting aspect of this Mango - it's flavor Profile.  It literally tasted like Grape Hubba Bubba gum; very flavorful in fact.  I really enjoyed it the taste and texture.  Other members have said the mangos they tasted didn't have the Grape flavor. The ones I tried definitely did!  Sorry, I can't disclose where I got this tree from, I hope you understand.

JF - LOL.....we all know that you are the Southern California King when it comes to Mangos

ClayMango - I must agree, Coconut Cream is incredible.  It is absolutely sinful in its taste and texture.  I love that Mango.  I only got a couple off of my tree last year.  It had such a strong Coconut flavor it was unbelievable.  However, I have yet to taste a LZ so I cannot fairly make any comparisons, but Coconut Cream will be hard to beat!

TnTrobbie - I counted about 25 Mangos on my LZ tree.  This is the first year my tree held fruit and will hopefully be the first time I get to taste one.  I decided to keep it in the green house while it fruited to see if it improved it chances of holding and maturing fruit.  So far so good.  It appears as though it has also caused the tree to fruit a bit earlier in the year than usual.

MangoFang - Hey Gary, good to hear from you my friend.  Thanks for all your kind words.  I am light years behind you when it comes Mango growing.  I'd love to do a tsating with you and the crew this year; I am really hoping to make it this time around.  Hopefully the fruit will cooperate this year. As for the Timotayo. it is hanging on but struggling a bit.  When I re-potted it, it had almost no roots whatsoever.  But, it is improving slowly so I am hoping for a full recovery.  Thanks Again!

Ed - I too have the same problem with the sooty mold.  I just make sure that whenever I start to see some, I do a really good job of washing it off to prevent it from spreading.  It is a bit time consuming but its worth it.  Also, a fan helps to keep the sooty mold from getting out of control.

Thanks Again,

Jacob

Hello All,

Just like Adam said, it all depends on how they are filled, but most of time I can move them by myself if I need to.

Here is a picture of a 65 gallon Pot.  There is a 35 gallon trash can next to it just for the comparison and some perspective.

Hello Friends,

A few Forum Member have asked about some of the large containers I use for my trees and so I thought I'd post a picture to show their relative size.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Fruiting Banana in a pot

Thanks Everyone,

fyliu - This is definitely not a trick :o.  After talking with a friend of mine who has a lot of experience with growing bananas in my area, I decided to feed the hell out of it.  I fed it so much and so often, I am confident that it would have killed any other fruit tree/plant.  In fact it had only been in that 25 gallon pot for about 3 months.  Prior to that it had lived its entire life in a 15 gallon pot.

Bananamil - Thanks for the advice on the bigger pot, that is good to know!

Thanks Again,

Jacob

Thanks Everyone,

Richard - Yes, for the most part it has been in my shady green house for its entire life.  It has only been outside for a couple of months now.

Thanks Again Everyone,

Xshen - I got the "Pauk Thompson" Jaboticaba from Exotica Nursery in Vista, CA.

MangCau - I would say the trunk is about as thick as a can of soda, maybe a little bit less.

Thanks Again,

Jacob

Thanks everyone!

Mike - I have had this Jaboticaba for about 4 years now, but it was 4-5 years old when I got it, so you're close to fruiting.

Adam - Yes this is a Sabara.  But, I do have 2 other M. Caulifloras; 1 is a big "Paulista", and 1 is a pretty big "Paul Thompson".

I also have a nice "Grimal" that is about 5'-6' feet tall, and several Red Hybrids.

I'll post pictures of all my Jaboticabas tomorrow.

Thanks,

Jacob

Hello Friends,

Here are a couple pictures of my Fruiting "Sabara" Jaboticaba.  It is in a 45 gallon pot and is really doing Great!  In the Pot, it is about 8' - 8.5' feet tall and about 6' feet wide.   It has fruited before but this is the first time I would consider this as a "crop"  I counted approximately 80 fruit, and even at that seems extremely sparse with room for tons more fruit so I am extremely excited about the prospect of all the fruit when it comes into full production.

Thanks,

Jacob

Hello Friends,

Here is a Picture of my Garcinia Sp. - "Madrodo del Monte".  It was originally slow to grow but has really taken of this past year or so.  In the pot, it is about 5' feet tall or so.  Does anyone have any experience with this one?  Anyone fruited this species?

Thanks,

Jacob

Hello Friends,

I just wanted to share with you all a couple of pictures of a Banana I have Fruiting in a 25 gallon Pot.  I am not sure of the variety but it is great tasting.

So as you can see, yes it is possible to fruit a Banana in a pot.

KG Knight,

I live in Southern California and I have a couple of G. Dulcis plants.  I have had them for a couple of years and haven't had any problems with cold tolerance.  If I can grow them in Southern California, I imagine they would do well in South Florida.  I also know of several people growing them in San Diego as well.

Hey Jeff,

You sent me a half dozen seeds or so from a "Fairchild" Ilama several years ago when you found out I had been tricked with the whole "Genova Red" Atemoya vs. "Genova Red" ilama debacle.  You were gracious enough to get me some seeds from a true Ilama.

Well, I now have a few trees that are about 3' feet tall and are doing very well. Apprently, they were from a pretty prolific "Fairchild" tree.  Does this ring any bells? Do you know if they come true to seed?  Do you remember what the fruit was like from this tree?

Thanks for all of your help!

Jacob
