Thanks,

It is ridiculous to think that you are trying to sell seeds and scions of a plant, and are basing the price of these seeds and scions on its presumed rareness, when in reality you have no idea as to what you've got. it makes absolutely no sense!

Furthermore, it is extremely irresponsible and harmful of you to claim you have something and distribute it into the community, when in reality you haven't a clue as to what you've got.  I have personally been out to Norman's property and have seen this tree as well, and even Norman doesn't know what type of Ice Cream Bean tree it is.  Also, it is terribly misleading for you to have named it "Norman's Early Bearing".  Not only did Norman not breed or develop this tree, he has no idea what it is; nor do you.  Additionally you have no idea if it is truly "early bearing".  You went out to his property this past Winter and found some fruit.  That in no way qualifies this tree as "early bearing".  You haven't gone continually over the years to establish a pattern of early bearing to be able to make such a claim.

The only accurate claim you can make with respect to this tree and its seeds is that it belongs to the Ice Cream Bean family of trees......That's It.  To claim that you know what it is, that it is "Inga striata", and to base the price of the seeds and scions on its presumed rareness and species, is absolutely Ridiculous and EXTREMELY MISLEADING.

Hey Adam,

Well done my friend.  This was just the obvious and natural evolution of things.  Good luck and I wish you the best!

just curious how you may have confused a rootsucker for a cutting that self rooted ?

the way you first described it, was like the tree had been pruned, and the branch had been left to lay under the tree, which rooted in less than one month.

you would have had to cut off the sucker you showed pics of, separating it from the rest of the roots...in other words, there would be a portion of the roots still in the ground, right where you cut the sucker.

It would be nothing like a rooted cutting...which could be easily pulled from the ground.

so how far from the base of the tree was the sucker?  and is there a stump (portion of roots) still in the ground, where you dug the sucker up?

im trying to understand how you could confuse a recently cut branch that fell to the ground and rooted, for a sucker (which is near the based of the tree, and needs to be separated or cut from the main root system)

AnnonAddict..............ANSWER THE QUESTION!!

Hey Adam,

Very nice plants and pictures.  The Grimal that I got from you last year is doing great and growing so fast.  It is a seedling and about the size of the plant in the 1st pictures in this thread; somewhere around 4' feet tall, maybe even taller.  The leaves are much bigger and darker than the Sabara and is easily distinguishable from other varieties.  It hasn't flowered yet but it sounds as if it is not too far off.  I will post some pictures soon.

Thanks again,

Jacob

NaturalGreenthumb,

You don't want to buy a seedling (much less 2) unless you want to wait 10-15 years for fruit.  Additionally you have no idea of what the quality of the fruit will be, or if it will even fruit for that matter.  Stay away from seedlings.  Look for an Air-layered tree.  There are plenty around and available.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: "Royal Purple" Mango Tree
« on: September 19, 2013, 05:24:57 PM »
Hello Friends,

I recently had the pleasure of trying the "Royal Purple" Mango.  It was on the small side with average to below average seed to flesh ratio.  Although the flesh wasn't creamy or melting, it definitely had a very nice texture with almost no detectable fiber, except as you get closer to the seed.  The Mango has a very sweet flavor and almost no acidity.  When biting into the flesh, you immediately get a strong "Grape" flavor, yes almost like "Grape Hubba Bubba", with almost no or very little traditional Mango flavor nuances mixed in.  Additionally, the grape flavor intensified as I got closer to the skin. There was a very Strong "Grape" after taste that lingered for a while that was also very nice.  I have heard other people describe the mango as having a "Concord Grape" flavor, but I think it is more of a "Candy Grape" flavor, but delicious none-the-less.  I thoroughly enjoyed the Mango and would love to have a tree.  However, if you are looking for a Mango with that "Traditional" Mango flavor as part of its flavor profile, you will be disappointed with this mango, as that is one facet this mango lacks.

Anyways, I think this is a very unique Mango with a very unique flavor.  It is a tree that I would love to grow.
