Adam, thank you for creating the contest..:)

It was a brain teaser, but I had fun researching online. I have learnt so much! I have a greater appreciation of your collection and wonder what other treasures hide in your greenhouse.  8)

Thank you

It's a really great talk. Thank you, for sharing the video Alexgardens... :)

I've had good results with Mallika mango, NDM and Cogshall so far. Maha Chanok seems like another good option for pots. I can't wait to fruit it!

Have you looked into Annonas? For example Sugar apples (Annona squamosa), Custard apple(Annona reticulata), Atemoyas etc. are great options to start with.
Also sapodillas, guavas, jaboticabas, eugenias, are a few examples of some fruit trees you might want to try in pots.

Good Luck!!..:)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Garage ripened container Gefner
« on: December 19, 2015, 09:38:04 PM »
Congratulations Nana!!!  8)

It's a great looking Gefner!! I do like gefner's sweetness, and you're right, it doesn't compare to a store bought cherimoya, but those are picked too early for shipping. I think true tree-ripened cherimoyas can be great!!..:)

I also grow my gefner in a pot, but I haven't had a problem controlling the size. You're already doing what I'd suggest, to prune. I wish I could add more.
You have a beautiful tree! Thanks for sharing your pics...:)

P.S. Love the sprouted seed!

Please do research before using Sulfuric Acid. It is a very strong acid, and potentially dangerous, as you can get severe burns to skin and eyes...it would be a good idea to use protective wear, like goggles and gloves, before handling.

Happy Thanksgiving!!  :)

Thanks for the tour Adam. All the plants are looking great, esp. the Annonas.   8)

Haha...love how Ed is so respectful in taking a red jabo...and once he gets a nice mouthful, his confidence grows!! He's a lucky baby. :) and sooooo cute!!!!

lol...i think his confidence was only hindered by the bull ant that rushed toward his nose..look carefully and you can see them running around on the trunk!  Ed flinched when the ant got close!

Haha...that makes sense.... ;) I would be scared of them ants too!! Haha I didn't see them the first time around as I saw the video on my phone...and was distracted with cooking... He is adorable! Hows Earl, the other lucky fruit monster?
Thanks for sharing...it was fun to share the video with family...:) I can't wait for my trees to fruit!!

Sticking them directly in the ground or potting soil both work just fine, however you need warmth to get them going. I did mine in early summer, but I agree it maybe a bit cold right now for in ground. You can use a pot with a heating mat under it.
I've also tried rooting them in water and it was easy to do. Just make sure to change out the water often.

Good luck :)

Just sent $10. I'm glad to help.

Thank you  :)

You can definitely plant it here in SoCal. My jabs love organic matter in their soil and they love water, especially rain or RO water. Here is a picture of Peters Jab from Escondido.

Wow, what a sight! Peter's tree is loaded!

Simon, what PH do you think your soil is? Do you add anything to amend the ph, or just leave it as is?

Beautiful trees, PR!! Nice photos.

I'm just as curious as Don, are those snails climbing up on the Zanthoxylum  trunk?

That is a lovely mango tree!  8) Very healthy too!! I do like seeing pics of large trees, they are so majestic! Thanks for sharing the picture.

It's sad the horses are not cared for. It will take time for the horse to come to trust you guys, so keep feeding it and over time it will relax and let its guard down to allow you to touch it's face, and gradually work up to it's ear. Right now it's ear is probably infected, itchy, and even painful, and it won't let any old stranger get close enough to even inspect it.

The horse knows who wins the race, a mango over an apple any day..:) haha

The mystery tree might be Java almond - Sterculia foetida...(or wild almond). I think it is it, but I'm not totally sure.
Have you noticed if the fruit turns reddish when ripe and cracks open? Also look to see if the roots buttress... They might help you identify the tree.

Good luck!  :)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mexico Monster storm
« on: October 23, 2015, 07:04:12 PM »
Raul, do take care and hunker down untill it completely passes over. You maybe lucky as you might be on the good side of the storm and not the dirty side, which can be brutal. I hope it passes over without much damage.

News stations, here in Texas, have been watching Patricia for a couple of days now, as it is supposed to be headed our way to produce heavy flooding event this weekend. I think it only made national news early this morning when Patricia attained category 5 level.

Wish you, Luc, your families and all in its path, well.  Stay safe and take care.
