Coffee grounds, diatomeceous earth - They're abrasive to ants' exoskeleton

Chilean guava (ugni molinae)/ 5 gal. I had it in mostly shade. However, during the cold winter, I experimented by relocating it in more sun. It thrived, with growth flushes everywhere. It's been in the 80's & it's still doing well. First sign of sunburn, & I'm putting it back ;P Can Chilean guava be rooted from cuttings?

I'm interested in some cuttings, too. I have yellow DF already, but if there is a giant version, I'm game for it

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Moringa Oleifera observations
« on: April 17, 2013, 06:08:15 PM »
Here's a 5 gal "regular" Moringa Oleifera that I pugged to encourage bushier growth.  It grows quite lanky & thin

Various seedlings w/ unique leaf structures

This one has the largest, roundest leaves, which I prefer.

Healthy Longevity Spinach in 1 gallon, organically grown

It's great fertilizer.

In aquaponics, a biofilter or growing media is used to harbor bacteria which converts to ammonia from fish waste to nitrites to nitrates, which plants then use.  Applying fish waste into the soil will bring bacteria to start the whole process.  Keep on keepiing on!

335
diluted Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) is used as an amendment for plants by adding magnesium to the soil, which helps w/ yellowing of leaves

I'm jealous of your purple caimito, J.

Has your green sapote flowered/fruited yet?

Do you have seeds available, Luc?  How many years does it take a seedling to bear fruit?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Is earthworm in pot a threat?
« on: March 19, 2013, 04:19:20 PM »
The worm castings (poop) is like Nature's Miracle-Gro.  It provides nutrients (macro/micro) & beneficial bacteria.  Worms also aerate the soil w/ their digging.  More worms, the better!

341
I can part w/ a rooted cutting.  I've read that eating a few leaves raw is okay, but most say boiling is the safest method.  I've also read that raw leaves blended in a smoothie is safe to eat, too.

The plant is a very vigorous grower in the summer, w/ Winter dieback.  Rooting is like that of cactus, everything took.

Yeah, it sounds no bueno.

Stick to worm castings, seabird/bat guano & fish emulsion.  Proven results

I'm surprised Fino de Jete wasn't on the list.
