there's really no need to buy this expensive stuff in my opinion if you have worms already in your soil. Just feed them lots of organic matter like compost and used coffee grounds you can get for free from coffee shops.

I have Inga Spectabilis and Inga Jinicuil on my list to get since they have huge pods. Not sure about the taste though. I hope someone can chime in here about them.
I have spectabilis. The pods are huge, lots of pulp, and the taste is really great.

Do you have any scion wood available?

Big thanks to gunnar429 for the scion he gave me last year. Here's a little progress video on how a small chip bud graft do in 7 months.

Got my scions yesterday!  ;D I started grafting yesterday on my cherimoya. Gonna continue the rest today.

What type of graft do you guys typically do on annonas? I'm doing the z-graft method on them because I got 100% success rate with it on my citrus, stone fruit trees, etc. this past couple of months.

Does T-bud graft work on them?

60
UGH! that's sad!

Any idea what the plans are for that land?

It seems it can be peeled rather easily:

the sumo mandarins we get at the stores here look nothing like that inside. much less of that white skin. I'll take a pic when I get the chance.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Jaboticabaholics Anonymous
« on: February 22, 2017, 09:34:28 AM »
Hi!  I'm interested in buying 2 or 3 Jaboicabas - my first ones.  What would you recommend for 1. ease of fruiting in containers and 2. the best but most different flavors.  Thanks.

Also, where's the best place to read on how to grow and fruit these plants?

You can try growing the  red jabo ,the grimal or coronata var restinga. The red jabo and coronata restinga are early bearing which start fruiting in three years. The red jabo like what i read can be easily grown in container and seems to be fast growing and i have one seedling nearly 4 months. The coronata restinga and grimal can handle tap water

I can concur on the Coronata restinga being able to handle tap water. Our tap here is terrible and the Coronata looks the best out of my jabos and also the fastest growing.

I wish I've gotten more of them instead and use them as rootstock for other varieties.

I think they're perfect. I don't see anything that's really pushed out yet. Even if they have, still try grafting them. I've had citrus grafts that healed and stayed dormant for 6-7 months before pushing out new growth.

Citrus General Discussion / Difference between Melogold and Oro Blanco?
« on: February 05, 2017, 02:08:37 PM »
How can one tell the difference between the two? I know Melogold are supposed to be bigger in size and thinner rind, but I've gotten fruit from a couple of friends locally with huge fruit from their Oro Blanco trees. Not sure if they're really Melogolds instead of Oro blanco. No nurseries in town ever sell any Melogold trees. Most haven't even heard of that variety.

Here's a pic of the fruit from her tree

Mark, at one of the Orange county scion exchanges 3-4years ago I asked Julie Frink about Arivipa taste and she said was not that good!
I've got it growing too outside but no flowers yet still small but healthy.

I wouldn't be surprised. The only source for them is this guy, "Shamus" that reveals in this video that he's never even had an avocado in his life towards the end of the video. It's mostly "hype" and people here are eating it up even though they've never even tasted it or heard of any taste test in the past.

that's impressive growth! What do you feed them and how often?

I might feed them 2 or 3 times a year. Any well balanced slow release fertilizer is fine. The key is constant, soaking water. Every day.

thanks for the tip!

What's your city water like over there? is it high in ph and have a lot of dissolved salts?

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Spray Your Citrus Tree With Asprin
« on: January 19, 2017, 05:17:01 PM »
you got a source for the article? I'd love to read it. I've read before of using aspirin when planting tomatoes, adding it into the planting hole or foliar spray. Here's a link to the paper.
