Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Clearing out some mango and avocado trees
« on: September 29, 2012, 09:17:33 AM »
We have a few mango and avocado trees (grafted varieties) that have lost labels and are a little ratty looking, we are looking to blow them out cheap. they are in 3 gallon pots and would do a deal for them all if anyone is interested in nursing them back to health and willing to take a gamble on variety. These are all known varieties, glenn, kent, hass, catalina, monroe etc  If anyone has an interest let me know asap, otherwise they go to whomever wants them, figured I would give forum members first crack at them, again they are not suitable for retail at this time, just want to make it clear they are not in the best of shape. I wont sell these to retail customers as we have no clue what varieties they are. CHEAP trees for anyone who has room!!!!n Thanks Mike

They will be sold on a first come basis,if anyone has any interest let me know and I will put you on the list,as I have been told, whether true or not I wont venture to say,but I was told these are the only ones in south fla that are known to exist other than a specimen at the fruit and spice park.

« on: August 05, 2012, 10:02:22 AM »
We had our first good crop of San Felipe mangoes this year and were pleasantly surprised how good they are, nice 2lb plus size very good tasting fruit and late bearer,we still have them on the tree. It seemed to take a couple of years for the tree to get going, but certainly worth the wait.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / First taste of new Zills Sunrise Mango
« on: July 20, 2012, 07:56:53 AM »
What a dissapointment this mango was, Funky odor and just an ok taste, just couldnt get past the odor of the fruit itself, while the taste was just ok, for whatever reason the odor of the fruit just killed it for me,not going to be recommending this to my customers. It is a nice looking fruit but that"s all it has going for it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Laurel Wilt disease in California!
« on: May 13, 2012, 10:09:23 AM »
The Miami Herald has reported the first discovery of laurel wilt disease spread by the ambrosia beetle has been discovered in California.
It is amazing how fast this disease is spreading.Be very wary of any plant material being brought in to your properties, many believe this bug transports itself through the distribution of firewood or plant material, good luck to our friends in CA,and all of us must be extremely cautious of any plant material that we bring on our properties. I know many on here ship plants back and forth, make sure you follow all laws and procedures, while this is a hobby to many of the people on this forum, many others livelihoods are in danger, growers, nurseries, etc. We all need to take extra care of what we do in this day and age.
