Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Wanted: Calabash Mango
« on: July 28, 2013, 08:44:04 AM »
Does anyone know a local (south Florida) source for Calabash mango trees and if they have a different name locally.  That is what they are known as in Trinidad.

My miracle fruit plants are currently brimming over with fruit so I will have an abundance of seeds.  I also have quite a few seedlings growing. I am looking for:

Fig
dragon fruit
mango/avocado budwood
seedlings of any kind

Please act fast before the birds clean me out.  That happened last time I offered miracle fruit.

I've got a handful of governor plum seeds (15 - 20).  I am not sure what they are known as locally but in Trinidad they are called governor plums.

I have about 30 to 40 too many small mango rootstock seedlings growing of a mixed variety.  If you would like some before I do my weekend clean out, please let me know.

Update:  came home with some energy today and cleaned up my pots and excess rootstock.  This is no longer available.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / mango cocktail tree pairings
« on: July 22, 2013, 11:07:55 AM »
How do you know which mango varieties mesh well together on a cocktail tree?  I am trying to do a couple of them in my yard and I am having an issue deciding which will be most complementary and not choke each other out.  I am looking for an even growth and fruiting.  Any tips from the veterans will be greatly appreciated.

I have an obscene amount of 3 gal containers and I need 3 or 4 25 gal containers.  I am willing to swap up for larger sizes for anyone who is interested in the local area.  I am even willing to swap up to 7 and 15 gal containers.  Name your exchange rate and you've got it!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Curators Choice Mango List
« on: July 13, 2013, 05:40:01 PM »

Lancetilla
Sweet Tart
Coconut Cream
Pina Colada
Harvest Moon
Juliette
Lemon Zest
Lemon Meringue

Just let me know what you have and how close you live to Parkland (33067)

Thanks

I went on a buying spree and have buyers remorse for 3 trees.  I am willing to trade them for almost anything.

I have 7 Gal:

Black gold Jackfruit
Golden Nugget Jackfruit
Lula Avocado

Willing to trade for a mango tree I do not have or a firmer jackfruit.  (Truthfully, I am willing to trade for anything interesting including equipment, off the beaten path tropicals that I do not have (can be smaller), or virtually anything).  These trees are huge so shipping is obviously not an option so you must reside in South Florida.

112
Want fruit from either black gold or golden nugget jackfruit or both.  Please message me if you have any for sale.  I need to decide if to plant these trees or trade them off.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Crunchy or mushy?
« on: July 06, 2013, 07:01:50 PM »
I have a large 7 gal Black Gold and Large 7 gal Gold Nugget.  I need to decide if to plant them or to trade them away.  Are these varieties crunchy or mushy when ripe?  I have had jackfruit with both textures and love crunchy but hate the mushy type.  Any guidance will be appreciated.

How tall and wide do the following trees grow?

Sweet Tart Mango
Coconut Cream Mango
Pina Colada Mango
Langra Banarsi Mango

Lula Avocado

Gold Nugget Jackfruit
Black Gold JackFruit

I am trying to figure out what to plant where.  What would you suggest on spacing between the trees (as close as possible without creating a future issue)

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Longan Tree for trade
« on: June 30, 2013, 07:01:07 PM »
This beast is about 8 to 10 feet tall and in the ground.  Come and dig it up this week and offer anything as trade.  I need the space for a couple of mango trees that I want to get into the ground.  PM me with any offer if you live in South Florida and are ready to dig.

118
Send any offer.  Ideally looking for seedlings or small plants.

119
I am trying my hand at grafting and have managed to get a few to catch.  I am looking for any desirable budwood from mangoes or avocados.  I am willing to buy them outright or offer something in trade.  Please PM me if you have anything up for grabs.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Suggestion to site moderators
« on: May 16, 2013, 10:36:45 PM »
We should have some sort of spreadsheet to help diagnose problems with trees such as disease and pests.  Perhaps something that has categories like:

Symptoms - Possible Causes - What to do to cure it - how often to apply -

Perhaps a picture of symptoms.

I have put together a very elementary version of this idea using the information I found on a thread showing issues with mango trees.  I would be happy to put it up as a very basic template to give a jumping off point if anyone thinks it would help.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / My leaves are 2 colors
« on: May 05, 2013, 05:43:02 PM »
The leaves on my lychee tree are now starting to get 2 colors within the leaf on some leaves.   (A dark green and a much lighter green).  Is this a symptom of something?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Something is eating my leaves
« on: May 04, 2013, 08:20:13 PM »
Something is devouring the leaves on my canistel, lychee and black sapote trees.  Any suggestions on what I can do to stop this scourge?
