Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Tons of seeds to trade
« on: April 18, 2013, 06:01:37 PM »
I currently have the following seeds to trade:

Caimito (Star Apple - purple)
Tamarind
Congo Watermelon
Jaboticaba (Sabara) seedlings
Hawaiian solo papaya
Scarlet Princess papaya
Sunset Papaya
Custard Apple (A BOAT LOAD OF THESE)
Surinam Cherry

Please contact me if you would like to trade for any.  I am looking for any interesting fruit that grows in zone 10b.

One way or another she will find a home this weekend.  If no one takes it, I am planting it by my parents house.

753
Even after the 6 trades I made after the last post, I am still sitting on an obscene amount of these seeds.  I am drowning in custard apple seeds from these gigantic fruit (4 pounders) so I will trade them for literally anything.  Send me an email and you have yourself a deal. It will break my heart to throw these away so please offer anything and they are yours.

755
I'll try to post a pic of it tomorrow.

756
I am pretty sure it is a 5 gallon because it is bigger than my 3 gallons.   I have too many mango trees so Valencia Pride and it's vigorous growth habit is on the chopping block.

757
5 gal pot purchased 2 weeks ago from Excalibur but this past weekend I visited Patrick and Sheehan and purchased 4 more mango trees.  Someones head has to roll and it is Valencia Pride.

758
I have a 6' - 7' Valencia Pride grafted mango tree that I need to trade.  it is currently in a pot and is too big to ship so it must be traded to someone in South Florida.  I need to strike a deal before next weekend or I will be planting it in my parents yard.  I am willing to entertain and and all offers.

Here are some of the fruit I sampled on this trip.

So what are the fruit pictured?

Folks, I just got more fruit from a neighbor and this tree produces 4 pound goliaths.  I am swimming in seeds so send any offer and I will send you some.  Seeds of anything that grows in my area, scion wood, anything and I will send you a ton of seeds.  I literally have hundreds of seeds at this point so no offer will be refused.

Jakfruit
Lychee
Mango
Custard Apple
Longan

Patrick,

I couldn't agree with you more.  The problem is that I am looking to make numerous cocktail trees and was told that my best chances were to do that on very young (6 months or less) plants.  In your opinion, can a 7 gallon mango tree make a good base for a cocktail tree?

I am going to Trinidad in June.  Where did you get the bouea?

764
Does anyone know a good source in South Florida for mango and/or avocado rootstock?  In my attempts to master grafting, I need practice which requires more mango and avocado rootstock than I have access to and none of the usual suspect nurseries sell small, not grafted plants for rootstock.  I am looking to get a dozen or so of each.

765
Thank you for the big response.  I still have about 50 left.  Send PM if interested.  I am looking for seeds of anything that grows in south florida

That is quite a list.  It looks like it is in a state of partial completion but I guess it is always getting new information added to it.

The mango variety spreadsheet posted on the forum, along with Pine Island's mango viewer have been my main sources of information.

I have looked for this but can not seem to find it.  Can someone link to the mango variety spreadsheet on this forum?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / The perfect cocktail tree
« on: April 10, 2013, 07:05:01 AM »
This is my version of the classic game when you put so and so's head on blah blahs body.  What would be your perfect mango cocktail tree including rootstock?

I am now trying my hand at grafting after a fair bit of practice and I have really been giving this project a lot of thought.  I saw Sleepdoc and Asaffron's creations and they look simply amazing and have inspired me.  They got me to questioning what has similar growth habits, differing fruiting schedules, and different flavors to give me a true taste of the spectrum of mango flavors  Any input would be greatly appreciated before I take knife and parafilm in hand.

On a side note, Noris Ledesma of the Fairchild Gardens told me that cocktail trees produce poor quality fruit and stress out the tree by forcing it to bloom and fruit numerous different times in a row.   Have any of you seen any inferior quality fruit as a result of cocktail trees?  Has cross pollenating been an issue?

I have some Custard Apple seeds up for grabs.   I am looking for mango or avocado scion wood or anything cool that will grow in South Florida.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Malay Apple
« on: April 07, 2013, 11:51:56 AM »
Thank you all for your help.  I have heard horror stories of people waiting for a decade or more without any fruit so I was a little hesitant to devote a portion of my yard to a losing battle.  Now that I hear this is the exception and not the rule, I will be getting one within the next week.  Thank you all for the information and, more importantly, for my pommerac back!!!!!   I find that certain  fruit have the ability to transport you back to your childhood.  Pommerac (malay apple) is that for me.   Now off to Excalibur for a tree I have been waiting ages to plant.  You are all welcomed to partake in my first harvest

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Wanted: Mango scions
« on: April 06, 2013, 07:43:35 PM »
I am trying to continue to hone my grafting ability and am looking for mango scions and can trade either my own scions or seeds.  I just got Caimito (Star Apple), Custard Apple, and Jaboticaba.  I am also willing to buy the scions.

Regards,
George

Just cut the fruit in half, scoop the contents into a bowl and mix it (with a teaspoon of honey if desired).  It couldn't be easier.  Don't try to peel it.  Scoop it the way you would a kiwi.

773
I can trade you NDM and Oro Negro for Coconut Cream and Lemon Zest.  In fact, those were exactly the two I was looking for.   I live in Parkland so PM me and we will work out the details.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Malay Apple
« on: April 06, 2013, 04:40:05 AM »
I have received contradictory reports on if the malay apple can fruit in South Florida.  Does anyone have any first hand experience with it?  This was one of my favorites back in Trinidad but we knew it as a pomerac.  I would trade every tree in my yard for one fruiting pomerac tree so if it is possible, please let me know.  If it is difficult, please let me know what I need to do.

775
I have miracle fruit plants (2 large) and a seedling 18" but thin), loquat seeds, black sapote seeds, a few Moruga Scorpion pepper seeds, Seven Pot pepper seeds, Surinam Cherry seeds, Alano Sapodilla seeds, and Haden Mango (maybe 1 foot tall).   I am willing to trade any of it or buy anything that you have that you no longer want/need.

On a side note, this forum has totally reinvigorated my passion for growing fruit trees.  I just stumbled on it and, since then, I check it more often than I check my email.   This is addictive!
