Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: World Plants Market website

Is that chinese? Google can't translate it but this page can be translated:  http://calamel.jp/go/shop/MS00035267?sr=1&cid=1804

Artocarpus sarawakensis ○パンヤ科 ○原産地:ボルネオ
○別名:Pingan

I would like to have this one.

I see the price is in Japanese yen, man it never stops they have so much.  But the translators don't work well.

I believe the website is Japanese. Yes, they have almost everything, it is really unbelievable. :-)

Hi everyone! Does somebody have any experience with this site? http://www.worldplantsmarket.com/
They have quite amazing selection of seeds and seedlings, some of them pretty rare.

The fruit on this poster is pretty nice compromise between photos and vector graphics. :-)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Tropical Fruit Forum Logo
« on: April 12, 2014, 06:04:09 AM »
Everyone loved the logo from Michiganian but she needed to re-create it with fruit pictures that we were allowed to use.  Shortly after she posted the original version, she has gone missing in action.  Does any active member have the skill to take her current idea and re-create it?

I am a graphic designer and I would be glad to participate in any way. :-)

I posted on this thread to Michaganian that i would be glad to donate photos for use on her design. She never contacted me. Offer still holds if you Vlk want to do it? But only if this design has already really been picked by moderators on the forum? I don't want to use up my time for nothing.

I went through the topic and saw the logo. :-) It is pretty nice, I would just do some work around with the font and typography in general. Also - using pictures/photos in logo is not exactly standard. I mean, usually you work in vectors in case you would want to use the logo over a big billboard let's say, you can resize it to any size you desire. Also you have lot's of options to use the logo on different backgrounds, you can create black and white version with ease ect. With photos, you are bound to use it in certain ways.. It has it's limits. Also, the pictures would need to be of really good quality. DSLR camera pictures would be best.

But it all depends on how the logo should work. Where it would be used ect. If it would be used just for the forum, then it is all right to use pictures and even pictures of slightly lower quality. In general, use on web doesn't require so much quality (meaning in pixels) when it comes to graphics.

It could also be worked in the way that the logo itself would be created in vectors and it would be mainly composed of the specific font, which would be the core identity of the forum and pictures of the fruit would be just added feature, meaning it could change in different enviroments of use - it would be different on a shirt, different on web ect. But the main core, the vector logo would be always there. And it could be also used without any pictures. So everybody who would see it could say - hey, that's the  TFF logo right?

The way I see it (even in actual logo design in the header of the forum) is that the font, the central part "Tropical Fruit Forum - www.internationaltropicalfruitgrowers.com" is the logo, whereas the fruit  around are just pictures to enhance the looks, but they are not part of the logo itself.

Anyway, the decision is up to you guys, I would be glad to recreate anything you would like. :-) And I can work with photos from Oscar without any problem. :-)

Wow! I already imagine the large satelite growing site somewhere in space.. Floating jungle of all the fruit trees mankind can imagine fruiting just few months after growing from seed. I think I am going to move to space and not Hawaii after all! :-D

Somehow i think you would like living in Hawaii better than cramped quarters of ISS.
Also just because this worked one time on flowering cherry doesn't mean it will work in future, or on other species also. My guess is that it's due to low level of radiation. Radiation is known to cause mutations. This can be replicated on earth, no need to go to space. But there is also no guarantee that these irradiated trees will live and flourish to become adult trees. Possible they will also succumb to disease and die after short time.

You are absolutely right. :-) I wouldn't like to live in space not even if the germination and maturing of the plants would be 100x times faster. :-D
But in Hawaii.. Oh wow.. I wouldn't even wink if I would get the chance to live up there! :-))

Can durian really be grown in a pot? I thought durian grows to be a huge tree in the wild, like 100 ft tall.

Tomas
They can and from what I've seen can even fruit in a pot.

So you have seen durianfruits that were grown in a pot in Europe?  Do you have a pic of that?
Me and my friends have durian in a pot. :-) When I buy and eat fresh durian, I always distribute fresh seeds around country. :-)
But they are still quite young trees, around 5 years old max.
To correct myself, I've seen durian flowering in a pot, not fruiting, but I suggest that from all those flower buds were at least one fruit. :-) It was on one of the photos I found on Flickr just by accident. :-) I can find it for you if you want. :-) I tried to contact the man, but he did not respond.

Here they are.

Awesome Mike, thanks for sharing! Beautiful seeds, they look quite similar to zibethinus in terms of shape, size and colour. :-)

I recognition the leaves u posted and it is very similar to durio oxleyanus.. Most of durio species has metallic coloration at the back of its leaves but not for D. oxleyanus..

Peace from North Borneo!
I noticed the difference of the leaves on my durian seedlings, oxleyanus appear to have more silvery leaves (not gold like others) and less of the classical durian texture. But these of durio grandiflorus looks really different from all other species of durian.

My inside man got me one last fruit and it is bigger than macrantha is supposed to get.Picked ripe 5 days ago and in my hot car it can't still be good to eat.Knock me down with a feather it taste great and is very good inside showing no real flesh deterioration.

The pulp looks amazing and delicious Mike! Are seeds any different from zibethinus in matter of look and size? Anyway, great you got hold of another fruit, thanks for sharing the pics! :-)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sprouting seed with flowers?
« on: April 03, 2014, 12:50:29 PM »
Hi everyone! I decided to germinate TJC mango seed and the stem just released itself free from the insides of the seed today, showing two strange leaves - could these be flowers? They are far too different from the folded young leaves just below.

The local name of durio grandiflorus is Durian Munjit.
This species considered as a variation of Boschia grandiflora Mast.
This durian species are very rare so it is very difficult to find the information on the internet.
I've never even seen this durian species before.
Yes indeed, that is how I found the pictures. More corectly, I found it by using a different version of the name "munyit". Still, these are the only pictures availible on the net. :-)
Yes, probably because this Durio is very rare even in Borneo.
I would look for information and possible picture if i go to Borneo in the middle of april.
Hope i can find it.
Awesome! Let us know if you found anything please! :-)
