Durio Cool,  now in waipio valley two of our durian trees have the same size buds.  For the first time i think itll set fruit for us here! Looks like they are in sinck all the way over here too!  Which i think isn't always the case.

Some of the durian trees have a crazy amount of flowers right now:

Hard to see how many flowers in the photo, but ground is carpeted in flowers:

Lots of buds and flowers at same time:

The flowers are quite large and have a very nice sweet lemony fragrance:

That's awesome,

You are so lucky Oscar. I would love to fruit a Durian tree but it is much too cold over here in SoCal. I love the sweet and creamy Durian. I've only had Mornthong and a few other Thai varieties but I really like Mornthong. Thanks for sharing !

I wish i could post a smell over the internet. But our technology is not so advanced yet. I don't find the smell at all objectionable. Only becomes a problem when not so savy people bring fruit into a contained structrue, that is one with 4 walls and a roof. It's a fruit that's designed to be kept and eaten outdoors.

In a Developed world, maybe. I doubt it was the Original intent.

Yes it was original intent. The odor is to attract animals from afar to come and eat and spread the seeds. The gaseous odor wafts for long distance once the fruit cracks open. Animals don't live indoors!  ;) This fruit was around long before humans ever existed.

I find it odd that the fleshy, substantial durian seeds are not eaten also...

Might be too large for many animals to eat? Anyway, pulp is probably a lot more attractive.
