Avocado Bonsai? Miniature avocado tree
« on: May 03, 2012, 08:33:51 PM »
I wonder if anyone has run into a miniature avocado tree. Last summer I planted about 30 seeds to get some rootstock for grafting. Most of what I use are Waldin Avocado Seeds. This was one. I had been watching this particular tree grow since the summer of 2011 now growing for probably 9 months. This tree should be 4 ft tall. The tree is only like 4 inches tall and 5 wide. It is healthy, actively growing but a perfect miniature. It seems in perfect health. Iím going to keep growing it, I wonder if the miniature thing is root related or if it is tissue? It would not have caught my attention except it is just such a perfect miniature.

Wow. I think it will make a good dwarf avocado rootstock.  A dwarf mango root stock can result in a smaller, more compact grafted mango tree. Maybe this one will result in a small grafted avocado tree.  A condo avocado doesn't sound like a bad idea.   8)

You would probably have to wait 3 year before you graft this tree or do micro-grafting.

I agree. It still looks too small to do a normal graft.

Interesting find there, love the randomness of nature. Would be interesting to get it to fruit bearing, 2 ft tall with avocados  ;D.
Grow mainly edible and herbal plants. Favorites are the fruits, vegetables, and tea plants.

I see a similar thing with one of my Garcinia laterifolia.
