grafted trees are available from Hopkins and other spots I'm sure.

maybe try airlayer...I hear cuttings only take about 1-3 at most...for experienced mulberry propagators.

Rodney, Are those from OC Scion exchange this year? Mine were growing leaves but some died on me too.

Are Morus alba supposed to be harder to root than the nigra? I have a pakistani from burying a cutting last year. I didn't try too hard and didn't keep stats.

They were from the San Diego Scion Exchange.  They leafed out pretty good w/ what looked like developing fruits, but they dried up.

When did you try the cuttings? I think it is best to try them in the fall so they have a few months to set roots before the warm weather makes them push leaves. I had the same problem with mulberry and pomegrante cutting when I tried in the spring. Winter cuttings are close to 100% takes.

Rodney,  if you happen to come to Florida for the Mango Festival, I have a nicely rooted cutting you could have.

This is the first year I've had any success rooting Pakistani.

I did two things differently, though there is no way of knowing if either one had an effect:

I left the cuttings in partial sun, instead of shade.

I sprayed them a couple times at the beginning with that liquid potassium stuff that PJ recommended as part of his spray regimen.

Thanks, mangomandan.  I don't think I'll be going to Florida anytime soon.  I wish.  I would love to visit the Fairchild and see all the delicious fruits that don't grow well here, w/o a greenhouse

I understand, Rodney.  I would love to see all the cool stuff growing in California. But I won't win the lottery unless I buy a ticket.

Meanwhile, I just realized that the mulberry plant would likely come complete with weevils. That would be a terrible thing to do to your yard and to the state of California.

And I would probably go to Hell,  which I understand is even hotter than central Florida in July.
