They were larger than a quarter and still mainly green. I think it was from the heat stress.

My apologies Berto and luc. My memory is pretty horrible. Edself, congrats on the premature fruit, that is great news that even the premature fruit tasted pretty good. Are you pretty sure the fruit is Mexican Garcinia and not Achachairu? If you are pretty confident, that would be great news as I only have one seedling and would need a plant to be able to self pollinate to get fruit. Thanks for documenting your progress!

Simon,

Yes I am pretty certain it is the Mexican Garcinia. These are the first garcinia seeds I sprouted and grew. They are my largest and oldest garcinia plants.

I hope it will flower next year!

I notice the stamens of the limoncillo are much longer than those of garcinia intermedia/brasiliensis.

also seems like the ratio of male to androgynous flowers is about 40:5

whereas the flower ratio on brasiliensis is approx 3:2, male:androgynous flowers.

much different than most of these other garcinias I've seen at fruit and spice park fruiting....but looking at pictures I notice the limoncillo is more like G. macrophylla, G. madruno, G. gardneriana.

Thanks for uploading these pics luc..they look great.

Berto,

It should bloom for you next year. It is the same age as the one that is fruiting for me!

Good observations on those photos Adam!

And thanks again to Luc for posting the photos and discovering the Limoncillo! Also thanks for sharing it with us!

Excellent,
I looked the tag and it is from August of 2007.  That beauty is already five (5) years old.  Great!

Ed,
I am glad you mentioned the nice bearing candolleana.  I want it back....ahahahahahahahahahah the ones I kept have not  flowered yet.....The ones I traded or gave them away all flowered!  ;D ;D ;D ;D
Luc, my understanding is that your garcinia is already producing in Brasil.  I believe that a fruit collector over there is already selling seedlings of it.

Marco Lacerda is a very good friend of mine Berto . Every year he orders 2 - 300 seeds , but I wouldn't be surprised if one of his own trees produced already , he got seeds way before anybody in the USA . No I have not tasted the magnifolia Berto.

To Jess , It would be a good idea to reserve now , some years production is not that abundant  .

Berto , did you notice Marco's 2 pic's he has on the page ? I also posted them on this forum . If his trees were fruiting he probably would have changed the pics for his own. I think .

growing as fast as this slow poke can!

I took it from a 3-7-25gal in one year!  I think this tree doesn't mind being repotted into an extra large pot (skipping a more than a few steps)....just keep it protected from wind gusts, and keep the moisture levels even!

it will reward you with rank growth, and earlier fruition...you can say that some garcinias have long legs (roots) and need some leg room to comfortably and quickly arrive at their destination of fruithood!

luc,

sorry im sure u have answered this before...what's the earliest from seed you've fruited a limoncillo garcinia (what size did it attain?) and what's the shortest one you've see bloom?

also the tallest one you've seen, or most massive.

thanks!!

I found a new little cluster of blooms on my Mexican Garcinia today! I t seems very happy in the greenhouse! I actually found them today because of the pleasant odor from the open bloom!

What I have experienced is really slow growth the first 2 years then a nice increase in growth the 3rd year and then rapid growth 4th and 5th year.
