Garcinia exuding Gamboge? What species exude more?

Hi Garcinia minded fruitsters,

Which garcinias have you noticed exuding gamboge the most?

The G. livingstonei exudes the least, maybe because it's old world?  Any way, my other new world Garcinias seem to exude gamboge (sap like, sticky resin on trunk)...I love to rub it off and smell it!  Funny to, because if my mango tree or any other tree did this, I'd panic, thinking it was rotting!!! I wonder how many garcinia growers panic when they see gamboge? 

What is it good for again?  I could look it up, but would rather hear feed back than just recite something I've read from Julia Morton, or the likes...

Is it used as a medicine and a dye? I forget..but I know certain trees are grown only for the production of gamboge.

Let me see. Luc's Garcinia/Rhedia exudes a yellowish sap. Does that qualify as gamboge???

Most fruit I've tasted had some form of latex in the rind...whether or not you consider this gamboge I don't know.  Every plant I've pruned shed some form as well.

In the garcinia realm, I only have fruiting sized trees of livingstonei (imbe) and intermedia.  I have seen no gamboge on either thus far.

Gamboge resin is only a big problem on mangosteen fruit. Other garcinias secrete it but it doesn't get onto the fruit. I think it's Garcinia tinctoria that's grown for the gamboge, used as a dye mostly, i believe.

Yes, this is gamboge...sap from trunk!

Lucs does it, intermedia, and my unidenitified, possible madruno does it.

I love the sap that just oozes out of the bark!!!

I may be wrong here, but isn't that the substance where hydroxycitric acid / HCA is extracted from to make diet pills? Garcinia cambogia being very high in the stuff and is extracted commercially from the rind.
