DIY foliar iron spray and possibly copper and others (homemade)

Just putting these out for your consideration. Why should we be slaves to expensive store bought mineral chelates. I have done neither yet though I do have iron and copper sulfates on their way to me and I already have DMSO sitting around. You will find one gallon 99.85% pure DMSO at Amazon from a horse tack shop.Delivered for about $40. http://www.amazon.com/Valhoma-INDUSTRIAL-SOLVENT-DMSO-GAL/dp/B00562ST6Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1328710733&sr=8-2  Though I would just deal direct with this source, they are on the internet in a big way. Big Dee's Tack & Vet Supplies.
DMSO is a lignin product. Look at the label of your Southern Ag Citrus Foliar. You will see unbound (unchelated) iron, magnesium, zinc, manganese sulfates plus their sulfates bound (chelated) to lignins.

Ascorbic acid= vitamin C and goes for about $14/lb

Ascorbic acid + mineral sulfates nutritional sprays --- http://www.reeis.usda.gov/web/crisprojectpages/203864.html   Research done at USDA in Miami. The ascorbic acid helps mineral sulfates penetrate leaves same as DMSO

Just be careful when using DMSO- it is useful because it is readily absorbed into cells, and carries anything else with it- like the micro-nutrients in your foliar spray.  DMSO isn't just absorbed by plant cells however, and it will gladly help your skin absorb anything as well: it is commonly used as a cream to help get medications through the skin and into your bloodstream.  It works just as well at getting potentially toxic copper compounds or insecticides into your bloodstream, even things that would normally not be absorbed through the skin.

I second what Kevin said on the dangers of DMSO.

Thanks to the both of you before Patrick went out and coated himself in a layer of readily skin absorbable chemicals all in the name of keeping his trees green.

For many fruit trees the only way to correct Fe deficiency, is through a chelated Fe drench...not applied to leaves, but soaked into roots!

Also why not just use an organic like Turfpro Iron formula??  I don't know of another organic chelated Fe drench on the market? does any one??? I'd like to compare costs...and products...I love turfpro as well because it has beneficial organisms!!! U can't just mix those up from stuff u buy on amazon...or maybe u can! LOL I better watch what I say...the worlds resources and information, is now at our finger tips, captured by a web, for us to devour! World wide web, anything is purchasable and possible.

DMSO  BY ITSELF is not very scary.  One of our late past presidents of the Palm Beach County Rare Fruit Council used to buy it by the gallon and drink it for his back and leg pains.  He did this for years.

It is said that two pest control applicators in Broward County mixed DMSO with a pesticide that they were very used to working with--- and both promptly died from it.
It can work too well.

You need to obtain a spray suit of some material rated for DMSO--- I don't know about it.   Or just don't mix it with anything that you don't want to raise your blood concentration of.
