I have at least four seedlings sprouted from the seeds I just got from palologrower.  I am going to put one in the ground in my greenhouse and keep the others in containers as backups for a while.

keep us posted on your experience. i have a hard time growing them out.  Personally, I'm not good at growing plants!  the seeds i have killed in my lifetime.....

I am looking to add to my Jackfruit collection. ZERO, a low latex offering is one that sounds very interesting. Currently I have Xain's (red flesh), Crunchy Lemon, TM Red, Xain's Soft, Orange Crush, Mai 1, and a couple seedlings from the forum called Amber. 'Berry' was another one I heard about but never got one. I removed a J-31. Any thoughts?

msg me.

The Cherapu is in the green house next to all the Garcinias in the Asia section. It has a sign next to it. You canít miss it. The duku are seedlings from Hawaii. Iíve never actually tried the fruit before. I hear they taste like grapefruit.

addicting.

Yup, I have definitely frightened my share of seemingly healthy seeds into oblivion.  Luckily time is on my side so I can keep trying.

i must be ugly in the eyes of these rare fruit seeds. fiji longan, artocarpus, and durio's defintiely do not like my mug!

My keledang seeds are sprouting!  I have tried a few batches over the past year or two from various sellers but this is the first time I have gotten green sprouts.  Thanks

glad to hear. some seeds i swear they germinate, take a look at the face of the owner and decide to drop dead.  ha ha ha.  glad they're germinating well for you.

Seedling received quickly and in great condition!

Thanks. Impressed with how fast USPS turned it around. Sent it on Tuesday and in your hands by Thursday!  But must be also due to only going from HI to CA.

i never had issues with USPS to be honest. Just lmk the estimated cost UPS and we can make a decision.

I try not to use USPS when there are other options to ship plants, especially to here in Florida during our 'Summer Sauna Season'.  USPS has allowed plants shipped even from within Florida to languish in one of their hotbox mail trucks from morning 'til late afternoon so that the plants arrive pretty much cooked and often do not survive.

I no longer trust USPS for shipping plants except perhaps in early Spring or late Fall when it is not so hot.

Just my opinion and experience (on more than a few occasions)!

well, sorta is/sorta not usps fault. at least you know what the risks are with how they'll deliver.
Or...have it sent to your PO Box.  At least mine is air conditioned.  Even if the A/C is bust at that location, it's way cooler than in a steel mailbox.

i wonder if you intercrop with Inga sp. (if you can get them) to create a canopy to maintain humidity would help?  Or some other comparable tree local to Thailand/SE Asia that can provide some benefit?

12
I agree... if cost is not an issue... there are quicker ways to get there.

Kevin

on a sidenote, UPS has let live fish i ordered just die and refuse to acknowledge anything happen.  Well WTF where is the fish? Crickets.  Ugh.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: True Green Cardamom
« on: June 13, 2024, 03:12:02 PM »
After growing Alpinia Nutans for a couple years, I came to learn that it would never produce cardamom, even though the leaves had a nice cardamom scent.
Went down a rabbit hole, learning about mislabeled cardamom, discovered true elattaria cardamomum wasn't that easy to find.
I bought some rhizomes from India, they've had some time to grow and wondering if anybody can confirm that what I have is true cardamom?
I can share some rhizomes from this if anybody is interested.

Not sure if this was trying to flower at the top here - but was only expecting the inflorescence from the base of the plant.

Underside.

Top side

Plant it Hawaii has cardamom on its list so should be able to grab for yourself since you're in Hilo.

15
My concern with shipping to Hawaii would be the lengthy voyage and the resulting stress on the plants.

Kevin

So long as you're a good packer and keep the plant medium moist/hydrated and doesn't leak, USPS priority should be fine. I believe the pot size is should be able to fit a large USPS priority box.  Pitangatubas are quite strong so I'm confident that it should not be a problem.

too bad you can't ship to hawaii. but still interested in learning of the brix #.

Several sources state that, despite the name, the pulp of a typical Garcinia dulcis can actually be quite tart. Are you selling seedlings of a sweeter variety, similar to a Russell sweet garcinia?

I never had a Russellís fruit myself so I canít speak to that.  But the dulcis seedlings are from fruit I ate and they were sweet.  Citrus peach like.  When you buy these seedlings you get some my my salvia dna in the mix!  Ha

Lol! Iím starting to like the Korean Natural Farming (KNF) thing going on in the gardening world that is starting to attract gardeners from all walks of life. Personally I like the fact that almost anything organic can be turned into useable compost in a shorter amount of time than a ďtypicalĒ composting method. Your ďsaliva dnaĒ will just be made into useable compost by the KNF bacteria !😉😛😁

BTW...Russell sweet garcinia also has a peachy taste. Thumbs up to the sweet dulcis seedlings...

One note:

The Russellís
Requires male/female

This sweet dulcis are coming from a single tree

I have purchased a number of younger Jaboticaba types but are any writing age or nearly so available in South Florida for pickup? I am in Fort Lauderdale. Also looking for Peluche Loquat among other items.

are you close to Winter Park/Orlando? Maybe too far from Ft Lauderdale. I'd seek out John Travis Morton. He is selling off a lot of his larger trees (too $$ to ship size).

Is Cherapu less tropical than mangosteen? Mangosteen does not grow well for me at 900í

good question.  But I think they're the same level of tropical.  Cherapu is from Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand?  But never know until you try I guess.

Was this from franks? Is there going to be more? I would fly over just to try it. Marang still better?

get your tickets ready. i think more are coming. but whatever it needs to get better fruit set isn't being done it seems. maybe gotta bring rotting fruit under the tree to get more flies to come and pollinate.
