Im very dissapointed with night market in Ranau, because nothing we find there for simple reason: market is not night market it is open from 2 pm till 7 pm, and if you planing to visit at night Then stop becasue only thing you will find is one seller with cabbage and onion as happend to us. No any durians nor other tropical fruits. If we didnt got some mangosteen from private garden when we search for Rafflesia in bloom, Then we have totally nothing. :'(

Today i visited night market in Kota Kinabalu , there were some interesting fruits I eat first time like langsat, wax apple, but i was happy to find few fruits of durian sukang ( probably D.oxleyanus) which have better taste than aby other durians in that market, not that strong but sweeter than regular durian. Also try some champedak with spicy aroma. Tomorrow  iwonder About taste of Tarap.

Thanks for advice, it looks like we will be limited with time so the best what I can do will be search for fruits in Ranau saturday market.  :-\

Sounds good,  will try to visit both but Ranau is easier as it is close to Kota Kinabalu. Hope fruit season will not be at the end ...

At the end of february will stay couple of days in Borneo. Can someone advise best places not only for tasting various fruits, but places when I can see them right on the trees. I have interest also about spices and medicinals... Thanks.

Seeds from this nice chinese species for sale worldwide. One of the most aprecciated haws with big fruits with medicinal value. Price 1 seed - 1 + postage. Seeds are very fresh. Within EU countries also grafted plants available for sale.

Emperors haw (Crataegus pinnatifida var. Maior)
Crataegus pinnatifida is a deciduous Tree growing to 7 m (23ft) by 7 m (23ft).
It is hardy to zone 5-9 and is not frost tender. It is in flower in May, and the seeds ripen from September to October. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Midges.
The fruit is antibacterial, anticholesterolemic, cardiotonic, hypotensive, stomachic, vasodilator. It contains several medically active constituents including flavonoids and organic acids. It has been shown to lower blood cholesterol levels and to improve blood circulation. It is used in Korea in the treatment of abdominal distension, pain, diarrhoea and to induce menstruation. The dried fruit is alterative, antiscorbutic, deobstruent, laxative, stimulant and stomachic. The fruits and flowers of hawthorns are well-known in herbal folk medicine as a heart tonic and modern research has borne out this use. The fruits and flowers have a hypotensive effect as well as acting as a direct and mild heart tonic. They are especially indicated in the treatment of weak heart combined with high blood pressure. Prolonged use is necessary for it to be efficacious. It is normally used either as a tea or a tincture. The seed is recommended in the treatment of difficult labour, hernia and swollen genitals. The leaves and twigs are used as an antidote to varnish poisoning (from certain Rhus spp). The root is used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting.
A very easily grown plant, it prefers a well-drained moisture retentive loamy soil but is not at all fussy. Once established, it succeeds in excessively moist soils and also tolerates drought. It grows well on a chalk soil and also in heavy clay soils. A position in full sun is best when plants are being grown for their fruit, they also succeed in semi-shade though fruit yields and quality will be lower in such a position. Seedling trees take from 5 - 8 years before they start bearing fruit, though grafted trees will often flower heavily in their third year. A very ornamental plant. The sub-species C. pinnatifida major has larger fruit than the type species, it is cultivated for this fruit in China.

All packages delivered, still a lot of plants disponible. New offer : Piper betle cuttings - 5 each + postage

Yes, you are right Oscar :) cuttings are faster but a lot of material is necessary... If you think abut seeds, hollies are usually dioecious so you need male and female plant  - not easy way
Wayusa take much better from cuttings than Mate for me. Cuttings are common way to propagate this species in Ecuador. But much decorative and I think easy for cultivate or propagate is Yaupon and it is native in US

Also I. cassine is interesting, it has some theobromine content in its leaves. Very easy to keep. I know I. tarapotina, but it is not easy to get live plants :) Next year I will try to prepare some young plants from Yaupon, Wayusa and Mate.  This year only one fruit on Mate and birds were faster than me so no any material for sowing :-\

Im trying to experiment with all cafeinated Ilex species - Yaupon (I. vomitoria), mate (I. paraguariensis) and wayusa (I. guayusa). They need very different conditions for succesfull groving, Yaupon and Mate tolerate subtropical conditions well, while wauysa need more heat and humidity. ;)

First packages already delivered, some plants are sold out and during cleaning my rainforest I found Rose apple (Syzigium jambos) 50 cm and more , price 18

First packages will be sent tomorrow... :)

I can highly recomend this seller. 3 days ago I received seeds of Criollo cacao and all of them were in very good condition, all germinated, perfectly cleaned and packed. I could not believe that cacao seeds can survive trip to Europe in such a good condition...

Last chance to get the seeds, they sprout quickly so must go to the soil

Accidentally I got more seeds of both than I can plant so I decided to sell them. Some of them are sprouted. Prices - Annonidium manii 4 per 1 seed and 3 per 1 seed for Trichoscypha acuminata. + postage.
