Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Where to buy boxes?
« on: January 19, 2023, 05:27:53 AM »
No need to buy boxes. I usually pick them up at stores especially stores like dollar general where all their boxes are conveniently in little carts next to their dumpster area. In most cases depending on weight(up to a few pounds) shipping priority mail package in your own boxes with dimensions no longer than 22 inches and wider and or talIer than about 10 inches is cheaper than flat rate by a few dollars. If the package is exceedingly heavier than 5-6lbs flat rate might be cheaper also depending on where the package is going too. There's so much packaging waste from boxes to bubble wrap/newspapers etc is a shame anyone buys boxes and packing materials at all.

Do your trees make fruit? I tried rooting some che cuttings a few months back but was not successful. I'd really like to grow them. If anyone has small rooted plants or can make an air layer for me that would be awesome.

Do you think that the true cherries could possibly graft onto chickasaw plum? I've grafted improved plums, apriums, and pluots to it before with success. Also hear peach and nectarines can graft onto it as well. Cherries are a prunus so maybe it would work too. Unfortunately the large chickasaw plum tree I had grafted like 7 different varieties of improved species onto died from long standing water the following season. My back yard is low and after hurricane Michael knocked all the large trees down water stands forever back there. Three summers back we got 90+" of rain that year and had standing water for 3 months straight. Killed the giant plum tree and half my large blueberry row. So disappointing...but now I've got a new plum in the front yard. Gonna graft the heck outta it with good varieties.

Sure do

I might want to buy some of these seeds before next spring. They are pretty hardy growers right? Kinda like a Seminole pumpkin.

I have some lemon drop mangosteen seedlings that I could send you eventually. Hopefully I can get them through the winter. They are the superior variety.

Some cool looking varieties for sure. Want some extra cash to come along so I can pick some up from you.

It’s. Damn shame when this is getting rolled out when billionaires and corporations still have every loop hole imaginable

The poor will foot the bill for all of the societal programs and expenses so the rich won't be bothered by those pesky taxes. God forbid they pay their (un)fair share like the rest of us struggling to make a living. We are extorted of our time and energies for the greater good though right?

Yes a believe the one woman that had a nursery for all the native types is no longer in business. Tried contacting her a few times with no reply.

I've got native blueberry of a few species on my land as well as chickasaw plum. Do have some native pawpaw around here too but not fruiting on my land yet. Didn't collect seeds this year either unfortunately. Do have some seedlings that are almost dormant but aren't that big yet. Think the are A. longisfolia but might be another species. I have found native trilobas here in the panhandle but wasn't around them when the fruit was ripe. I'll try to get some next year. Perhaps one native in the panhandle would be better for more southward in Florida than the seeds from further north.

They will here at least if in a microclimate conditions such as up against the porch on the south side of the house or under other dense perennials. However you likely get colder and it's sustained longer.

Hit me up when you're ready.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Patupi banana plant wanted
« on: November 09, 2022, 07:47:51 PM »
Bountiful Gardens has them. Says they are cultivated from a usda specimen. Seems like a cool variety.  Especially since it grows and produces so fast. 5-6 week bloom to ripening time is insanely awesome. Might have to get one myself.

43
Also looking for the variety "SH3640". Seems like it may be a good banana for the panhandle region.

It doesn't say but I would think the etsy shop's banana plants are tissue cultures. Therefore they are clones and definitely true to type. However any banana pup is true to type. Most banana are not from seeds anyways.

Does anyone have this variety available? I've got a lot of species available for trade. Not a ton by way of fruit but lots of the permaculture style perennial veggies and herbs. Let me know.

Thanks! DG

I'd definitely trade somebody for a fruit or 3 if they are still in season. I've never tried a triloba fruit. Really want too. Have Inga vera seedlings and quality suriname cherry seedlings to trade amongst many perennial veggies and such. See some of my posts for a list of things I have.
